this is why i love the interwebs.
i found this book through a link of a link of a link and im so bummed because i cant remember exactly from where to give it proper credit. but anyways,.....look at the cover!!!!
isnt it beautiful!?
i love how its plain and white and then BOOM! color!
love it. shout out to the illustrators. and to her husband for the drawings inside the book.

....ill do this both ways, actually, let me give you the B&N description and then ill do my spoil because i just cant not do it.

Barnes & Noble:

"My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.
But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He's tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.
Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster."

before i jump in and spoil it all, yes, this is a YA book and its very much like The Fault in Our Stars and Eleanor & Park. but be happy knowing that no one dies. i still loved this book but ill keep that for spoilers.

maddy lives at home pretty much caged in because she has SCID. a rare form of basically being allergic to EVERYTHING.
so of course she lives at home where she's never seen the outside world. never seen, smelled, or touched the outside world since she was idk 4 months old or something.
its just her, her mother and Carla her nurse.

that is until one day.
the one day when Olly moves in next door and her life changes.
it starts out of curiosity. Olly and his sister deliver a bundt cake to her but because of her allergies her mother declines the cake.
they head home and their father goes crazy. i dont want to make it too long so ill just say it here but his father is a raging violent alcoholic.
curiosity gets the best of Maddy and they become quick online friends.
she some how convinces Carla to allow her to see Olly in person.
it quickly blossoms in to more but then its cut short once Maddy's mother finds out that Carla has been letting Olly in.  how she found out, well, i wont spoil all of it!

fast forward, Carla gets fired. and while she gets fired she tells Maddy to remember to live life.
which then leads to her leaving to Hawaii with Olly. (meanwhile, i have to plan in advance just to go eat at chipotle and get the guac without worrying about the extra $$$. le sigh. lol jk jk) everything goes well until the one night that it doesn't.

she goes back home and she's under for a while but of course when she comes around, shes back to the grounded lifestyle.
she is not allowed to have Olly visit and she actually tells him that its best that they no longer keep in touch.

months and months go by when she receives an email aaaaaand (if you really dont want to know the spoiler part please stop here!!!!! you have been warned!)
she NEVER had SCID!!!
her freaking mother had her locked up all these years because shes (sorta) crazy!

when she was young, her brother and father were killed in an accident. leading up to it and maybe after (i forgot!) she kept getting repeatedly sick. ear infection, flu, diarrhea, colds, everything.
her mom was paranoid so she decided on her own that her daughter had SCID and locked her up. all because she didn't want to lose her daughter.

WHAT THE WHAT!?!?!??!?!?!
what a freaking crazy lady!!!
can you imagine if your own mother did that to you!?

of course she confronts her mom but she denies it.
she, at the beginning of reading the email, believes its a mistake because you know, how could her own mother do that to her?
but of course, when she asks Carla, she states that she kind of agrees that her mother might be off her rocker.
she goes to the doctors and he of course concludes that she in fact does NOT have SCID which i mean, woah!
the reason she had the episode in Hawaii was because since she wasn't allowed to grow up with the elements, her body went in to shock. other than the fact that her mom basically ruined her life, she was a healthy human.

in the end, she ends up in New York with Olly.  oh, did i forget to mention that he moved away?
it was a good ending BUT im wondering where the hell did she end up at in New York?
who did she end up living with? what does she end up doing? how does she survive? cause New York = <3 but i mean its dirty-ish! if your immune system is down is that really where you want to go?

okay, so. did you read all that!? if you didn't, its a-okay. give the book a chance. fall in like with it.
if you did read the spoilers, as always, i left a lot out. i spoiled the main points but i didnt spoil what leads up to it and i truly believe those are just as good as the "main" event.

i really, really, REALLY liked this book and this author. i cant wait to see what else she publishes.
if you give it a read (or already have), let me know what you think!
