"You have to give yourself space to grieve. If you don't let yourself feel all the terrible, scary, awful pieces of grief, your magic may never be yours again."

SYNOPSIS
Hannah Walsh just wants a normal life. It's her senior year, so she should be focusing on classes, hanging out with her best friend, and flirting with her new girlfriend, Morgan. But it turns out surviving a murderous Witch Hunter doesn't exactly qualify as a summer vacation, and now the rest of the Hunters seem more intent on destroying her magic than ever.

When Hannah learns the Hunters have gone nationwide, armed with a serum capable of taking out entire covens at once, she's desperate to help. Now, with witches across the country losing the most important thing they have—their power—Hannah could be their best shot at finally defeating the Hunters. After all, she's one of the only witches to escape a Hunter with her magic intact.

Or so everyone believes. Because as good as she is at faking it, doing even the smallest bit of magic leaves her in agony. The only person who can bring her comfort, who can make her power flourish, is Morgan. But Morgan's magic is on the line, too, and if Hannah can't figure out how to save her—and the rest of the Witches—she'll lose everything she's ever known. And as the Hunters get dangerously close to their final target, will all the Witches in Salem be enough to stop an enemy determined to destroy magic for good?
You've earned the right to destroy the thing that has taken so much from you.

THOUGHTS
I'm split and honestly dont know which way to go.
On the one hand, it was a good read. I was glad to have more of Hannah's story. I'm glad it wrapped up after 2 books (minus the novella). But tbh, couldn't the author just slap on idk 100 and some shit pages to book 1 and told it all in one go?

my reasoning is that...at the end of it all, they way it was resolved....like they really didnt think about it? Doing the EXACT same thing? The old ass coven with all these witches and it took a 17 year old to defeat the bad people using an idea that was already our there?

and tbh, I get it I get that Hannah is still grieving everything that happened (time in this book seems like it's rather fast rather than drawn out to fit everything) but there were so many instances where her magic couldve helped her but instead she didnt access it because she kept repressing it. She knew what she had to do but she was still in denial.
the way she loses her shit when it comes to Morgan but then everyone else is like oh, okay. It isnt till shit hits the fan (one of the many times) that she finally access it but then continues to push it down.
(I get it. As a human being with feelings and emotions its hard to ask someone to do something when they feel like it's the last thing they can do buuuut I'm going with this is a story and well....wtf!)

There are several scenes where you can clearly see where its going and surprisingly I was right but then the twister was that there was some type of "blessing" behind it that I didnt see or think of so it pays off.

In the end, everything works out the way its supposed to but I read a quote from the first book and that quote alone evoked much more emotion from me than the entirety of this book so, yes.
It was a good read but I was frustrated a lot.

Now I'm off to read the novella and see wtf happened in New York.

jump over for spoilers!
thanks for reading!

Hmm...well....

Benton is in jail and now Hannah can't access her magic unless she's with Morgan. ....and then they're at homecoming dance and boom! Benton has busted out of jail. The Friday before his trial is set to start.

They need to stop the hunters from spreading the whatever the fuck it's called that kills everyone's powers.

So they come up with a plan that Hannah will help recruit this other blood witch and caster to help with their plan.

Hannah goes to NYC with Morgan and Sarah (another Elemental Witch) to recruit Alice who is a blood witch doing magic shows all over the place.
So they go but then of course, Hannah stays thinking "this alice chick is familiar". You see it right? I've yet to read novella but yes, alice is one of the ones that tried fucking her up when she went to New York with Veronica.

Prior to the show, Hannah took a picture with Morgan and posted it on ig and so of course, Ripley, Morgans ex who happens to also be a hunter finds them exactly where they're at.

Blah blah blah, a fight ensues, the dweebs manage to get Sarah so she loses her powers but in the end, they lock all three up into trunks and back to Salem they go. Sarah with the dweebs and Alice, Hannah and Morgan in another car.

I'm over it so I'll jump to it:

The plan for the hunters was that they were going to release some airborne toxins shit into the air that way they would get all the witches in one go.
The first time they attacked, they poisoned the water so all of Hannah's family in who knows where lost their power.
Theres a plant where all of this is going on that happens to be ran by Benton's parents. The Coven believes another Caster, David was the one that helped them create the potion that would strip them of their powers. He helped them because he came to the coven to ask for funding for his research and they told him no so he turned around and went to the bad guys.

No matter what the coven did, they were always one step behind the hunters.
It turns out that one of the Elders from Hannah's coven was actually supplying the hunters with everything they needed. Elder Keatin (I think that's how its spelled). And the reason she was doing all of that is because she was tired of having to hide. She wanted to change the rules but the coven wouldnt allow such a thing.

So in the end, even after Benton tried killing Hannah, he also ends up rescuing her sorta (I skipped the part about how they broke into the plant the first time) but he still ends up going to jail.
Buuuut he does give them all the info about the plant so the witches both Elemental & Blood along with Casters come up with the plan to go to the lab (lol I was using plant cus i didnt think of lab! 😑)
They strip it of everything, destroy everything, blow it up and shower everyone who worked in there with the potion to make them forget they hate witches.
(They got everyone out of the building so no one dies before they blew it up. They werent dicks about it.)
There are only about 100 hunters so its fairly easy for them to erase everyones memory.

And so yea.
It took them a shit load of shit for them to realise "hey, let's just create a counter potion and do it to them the way they were going to do it to us."

A lot of other shit happens too but I'm over it.
I did the best I could lol.

Oh, and uh.....hmmm. I forgot what I was going to say. Shit. Lol
