SYNOPSIS
Meet Roxy. She’s a sometimes vegan, always broke artist with a heart the size of Texas and an ex living in her spare bedroom. Her life is messy, but with the help of a few good friends and by the grace of the goddess Venus she’ll discover that good sex, true love, and her life’s purpose are all closer than she realizes.

Bridget Jones penned a diary; Roxy writes letters. Specifically: she writes letters to her hapless, rent-avoidant ex-boyfriend—and current roommate—Everett. This charming and funny twenty-something is under-employed (and under-romanced), and she’s decidedly fed up with the indignities she endures as a deli maid at Whole Foods (the original), and the dismaying speed at which her beloved Austin is becoming corporatized. When a new Lululemon pops up at the intersection of Sixth and Lamar where the old Waterloo Video used to be, Roxy can stay silent no longer.

As her letters to Everett become less about overdue rent and more about the state of her life, Roxy realizes she’s ready to be the heroine of her own story. She decides to team up with her two best friends to save Austin—and rescue Roxy’s love life—in whatever way they can. But can this spunky, unforgettable millennial keep Austin weird, avoid arrest, and find romance—and even creative inspiration—in the process?

THOUGHTS
i loved this read so much.
i was not expecting it to be so funny.
i also was not expecting it to be all letters to just Everett (that one completely just went over my head). but i especially loved that in the end it was more than just letters to Everett; it was more so a diary to herself where she spoke to herself and just wrote down how she felt and what she was going through and in that you can see her growing into the grrrl goddess she is meant to be.

what i really loved is how you see her grow in the letters (but lets be honest!, she still finds a way to be selfish at times) from her feelings towards Everett. i just absolutely loved their ending (trying to give away very little here). i loved that she sees the bigger picture for what it is. it makes me happy that she can be happy for him (and others) given that in the beginning she was absolutely adamant about nothing happening between them thinking that that's what he was about. it shows her growth as we progress in the story.

oof, i loved Texas. i loved their run ins.
so funny and so...i mean they couldn't have been better!

Artemis. i loved her. she was so much fun.
i loved what she did for Roxy. and overall, i just loved the story line that Artemis takes.

that *twist* (no spoilers here!)
here i was laughing along 200+ pages and then BOOM!
i did not see that happening!
to me, it took this story to another level.
i thought this story was just about lol life and here we go with something deep and unexpected. i really liked what was done with that. i loved that we take this long journey just to have it give us this story line so far in. well done!
its not super delved into once its revealed but i feel that it was done just right. it did it justice.

Dirty Steve. that guy.....lol. i cant with him.
i did love their banter. and then....well...

Roscoe! kid, you gave me several heart attacks. im glad you're safe and survived it all. now please, for the love of me and Roxy and her wallet, please behave! lol

i really liked all the connections and friendships that Roxy made along the way.
she stands up for what she believes in and it might take her a bit but she gets things done and she sees/realizes the bigger picture in it all.

honestly, this book was nothing like i expected it to be. im not sure what i expected but i definitely got more than i thought i would.
i absolutely loved this read.

i think it should be noted that its a very heavy-ish sexually referenced book and i do feel that might turn some people away if its not noted. i was shocked at all the sexual references. not in any bad type of way but just because i wasnt expecting it all. (but some of those scenes were the funniest ones too!)

oh! also, i cant speak on BJD (Bridgette Jones Diary) because i have never seen it but i have seen here and there that it's compared to Where'd you go Bernadette and i'd like to think that the only similarities between the two is the whole letter thing, if anything, im getting Tiff from The Flatshare vibes had Tiff been a teeeeny tiny bit more out there. and i think younger (i cant remember how old T is) but def not WYGB vibes (it has been a while since i read that though!). so if you see that comparison yourself, disregard it. not the same at all.

either way, im glad i read this.
i cant wait to re-read it in the future.

i started this as a read but finished the last 2 chapters as an audiobook because i could not get through this fast enough. no part of me could wait til i got home.
had i been at home, i would not have moved until i was done with this read.

thanks NG for the copy, but also, thanks MPL for sending me over your publishers info so that i could get a physical copy of this wonderfully funny/heartwarming book!

i am so glad i read this.

thx for reading!
jump over for spoilers
SPOILERS
this is why i need to do this right as im done! i forgot! :<
anyway....

roxy asks her ex to move into help with the rent.

At first she writes to set standards about their living arrangements but in the end, he moves out and it ends up being sort of a therapeutic emotional release for her.

one day at work shes covering for her friend, handing out samples when she notices a total bimbo gold digger type of wife coming her way wearing nothing but lululemon from head to toe.
She happens to be carrying a bottle of duckie some shit, she gets bothered and tells her to not buy it. Lululemon ignores her, roxy says something & lululemon ends up pushing her and they throw it down.
She's fired. (She bribes her way back in when cops come in looking for her boss Dirty Steve and she helps him escape.)

(Back story: The reason she's anti duckie is because she drew the logo and her ex boyfriend whom she swore she'd end up marrying marketed the product and used the drawing. To make matters worse, Roxy is vegan and the product is made with duck fat and lamb some shit.)

So roxy is pissed that lululemon (the brand not the gold digging woman) moved into a very important intersection where she works by in texas that should instead go to a mom and pop hometown store type of deal.
So she goes in to see what it's about and low and behold who works there?
Bimbo gold digger wife. (Real name Artemis)
they talk they become friends and after lots of everything, Roxy decides that shes going to protest lululemon.

The protest happens, it picks up momentum, (Artemis tells her she's all for her doing the protest but that she cant join her bc she cant lose her job) when boom! Out of nowhere, Artemis' coworkers from the cabaret show up and they bust out a dance routine. Artemis does end up going to the protest after all.
They get into it and then Artemis & Rox tag up the windows.
The cops come and Roxy ends up getting arrested.
Yet Artemis has gone missing.
(the protest was a mess. tbh, no one really knew what the protest was about).

Afterward, her ex, Emmet and his new gf bail her out, she goes home and finds a letter from Artemis telling her to beware of the plumber.
she then tries to find her. In the end, the lady who bailed Artemis out of the scene before the cops got her was actually her mom.
Artemis is not her real name, its actually Zoey.
and she is bipolar (or schizophrenic...sorry! I forgot)
Her mom took her to a rehab.
Rox goes to visit her but it doesn't end up going good and Artemis tells her to leave her alone.

Her other friend, ugh I forgot her name and I'm too lazy to go look, got promoted to the fifth floor and long story short, Artemis and her end up going to the lab where Roxy is being a human lab rat to make money for her legal bills because the other friend whose name i cant member got her a job on the fifth floor doing art and shit like that (all the cute chalk signs you see all over whole foods). She ends up getting the job.

The boss dude tells her that he was impressed (i forgot the proper wording) with her protest and that he agrees with her....blah blah blah...he has connects to the lululemone next door and they buy them out and turn the space into a dachshund puppy mill rescue place (I forgot how Emmet found it or if it was even him). Its this big old thing and Dirty Steve of course having fired her AGAIN after she staged the protest, shows up all drugged up and goes up to her and talks shit to her because she got hired for the fifth floor when hes been with whole foods since the very first one opened but has never been promoted beyond the store itself.
He gets knocked out, fired and arrested.
The prostitutes he showed up with both adopted puppies lol

She ends up dating Texas after some turmoil and turning him down (all because he has kids).

I gave yall the main-ishhhhn gist of it but I left a lot out.
Like the masturbation convention, hot dude Texas, bad booty calls, running into her ex looking like a swamp monster, her meth head neighbor, her fucking dog who gave me a heart attack every single time the story landed in him and lots more.

Honestly, good funny read! and i did a shitty job writing it all out.
oh well!
