Dying is easy. It's not dying that's hard.
SYNOPSIS
Margaret Jacobsen has a bright future ahead of her: a fiancé she adores, her dream job, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in one tumultuous moment.

In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Margaret must figure out how to move forward on her own terms while facing long-held family secrets, devastating heartbreak, and the idea that love might find her in the last place she would ever expect.

THOUGHTS
I remember hearing Cassie (in things you save in a fire) talk about remembering the girl in the plane and how her story will forever stick with her and for some reason that little tidbit stuck with me.
I just so randomly happened to find out that there's a short story about that girl and Cassie meeting and that this book just happens to be about the girl in the plane; Margaret.

It started out pretty good for me. I had just finished her latest book thanks to an arc from netgalley that I did not end up liking so this one was starting pretty strong for me given what I'd just read and I couldn't get enough of it.
and then.....iduno somewhere along the line it just fell kinda flat.

she has her accident, she's in the hospital, her "fiancé" ends up being a douche bag, his mother and her mother end up being a bag of dicks as well (her mom redeems herself later on).
She meets Ian and sparks fly for both of them but of course it's never that easy.
Shit happens, she's released, some other things that I don't want to spoil happen here and in the end, it all...works out.
and of course it was going to work out because this is what these type of stories always do but Idk, I just feel like it all worked out too neatly? If that makes sense.
while it isn't happy go lucky and sunny for Maggie after the accident, I do feel like it was fast? Or easy....I don't know exactly how to describe it but it was bing, bang, boom and done.
I don't know.

I think for me, it kinda just falls when she's released. I didn't like the way that she was written in that scene in her home. I'm all for owning your shit but it just felt a little...too much.

Aaaaaand then, that scene on the boat.
And with K, you saw it coming right? Cause I did.

There are other side stories in there that add to the story but just overall even with those, eh. It fell flat for me. It was more so added drama just to add to the story.

I did like the epilogue because it ended up being more about everyone instead of just her. There is a bit of heartbreak but its life ya know. But overall, the epilogue I guess ended up working out for me because it just shows how life is i guess.

I did this as an audio read (thanks to scribd) and I've got to say, i don't know how audiobooks work but if you're going to have a Scottish man as the main dude in the story, splurge for a Scottish man to do the man parts because at points home girl was Scottish and at others she was Russian and overall, it wasn't the best.
Also, if you've heard it (or do hear it)....did you notice the change in the woman narrating? The first few chapters you get one voice. Once Maggie lands in the pt thing with Ian and shes listing off some bones, the voice completely changes.

Anyway, yea...Idk, this is the third KC book i read in like a week span but I gotta say they're not some of my faves.
now i'm wondering if i truly did love TYSIAF or if i just glossed over it and didnt think too hard as i was reading it.

anyway, jump over for spoilers.
thanks for reading!

S P O I L E R S
Margaret has a fear of flying but Chip being the egotistical man he is, disregards her feels (even though he's always known), takes her on a flight WITHOUT HIS PERMIT OR EVEN CLEARANCE and then manages to crash leaving him without a single scratch while it leaves Mags without the use of her legs.

He ends up becoming a bit of an alcoholic not because he regrets what he did but because he cant handle that his perfect fiance is now damaged goods.
Her mother is in denial and is urging her to think positive so that she can learn to walk again (even though doc's have told her hey, not guna happen)

Her PT or whatever the fuck ends up being Ian, after Cassie suggests that he take her (that's the only appearance she makes). At first they dont talk but then Maggie is trying to break him down and eventually she learns that his boss (Malcolm? I already forgot his name) doesn't like him because he had actually left to start his own company and refused to take him after he'd snatched everyone else away. The company failed and he was back, Malcolm was now the boss so he was making sure that Ian paid for it every which way possible. (which, i get why Ian was down in the dumps but he's in charge for a lot of other peoples paychecks and livelihood. he really just let everything go to shit? with no remorse to how he failed other people who also depended on him?)

Anyway Kit, Maggie's sister, finally comes back into the picture after missing for 3 years (turns out that she found out her dad was actually not her dad. Her mother had an affair resulting in her so she decided to leave) and she wiggles her way back in. The accident happens on valentine's day. Mags had been in recovery for, if my calculations are correct, 5 weeks? They decide to bail her out for one day to celebrate her bday.....at her grandparents old ass cabin where she has no business being at given her current condition and of course, Ian goes. I mean there really is absolutely no reason why a) she should even be leaving the hospital and b) why he should be going but whatever, fuck it, let it go.

So they go, he puts her in a canoe and they go around the lake cause he asked her to show him around.
They make it back, sit around a camp fire and eventually he takes her inside cus it's cold af.
As he's taking her into her room, he trips on a rug and to avoid dropping her and landing on her, he bends back, falls and she ends up landing on top on him. they end up making out and then Kit ends up cock blocking.
he realizes his mistake, tells her it cant be. they go back to the hospital and to shock some sense into him, she tells him that she wants another PT. He just says okay.

Time for her to leave comes which means it's also time for Kit to go back to New York.
I should mention that Kit & their mom have always had a shitty relationship but by this point I guess because they kept the secret from their father, the mom breaks down, hugs her and tells her the story of her father. ...she had sent her husband to go get her a sandwich so he had left.
So she tells them the story of Kits father and the girls agree never to tell their dad. Except, he had heard everything because he had forgotten his keys and had gone back for them and the walls are super thin so he heard everything.
(They end up separating for a while.)

Mags goes to live with her mom. And Ian shows up.
He tells her hes going back to Scotland I think on Monday since his work Visa is now done with (Kit threw a belated Valentines day party and she had a mistletoe going around, she places it above them both and Ian kisses Maggie and of course Malcolm walks in sees it and fires him).
She tells him she loves him and proposes marriage so that he can stay.
But he tells her no that she's not sure of her feelings that she only feels that way for him because he was there to help her get better. He leaves.

she's one roller coaster of emotions even going as far as saying that if in a year she ain't happy she will kill herself.
Kit comes to visit and sneaky like always, she asks Mags about her whole...camp thing she was planning and how it was going....(she wanted to start a summer camp for disabled kids and adults)....she gets mad that Kit brings it up especially in front of mom but Maggie ends up throwing herself into that.

Laaaaater, her mother gets an invitation to Chip's wedding. Everyone was invited minus Margaret.

Kit devises a plan to go to the wedding (somewhere in Europe) to parent trap their parents and while they're at it, they can also just fly to see Ian even though it's been a year.

It's been a year since her accident and here she is on a plane.
(and LOL i know its for her parents really but here she is on another plane because of Chip or Chet or whatever the fuck his name is)
They get to the wedding day and the plan was for Margaret to stay behind while Kit goes with their mom to meet up with dad but Kit is sick to Maggie goes. Once they arrive at the church it's a cluster fuck and her mom ends up leaving her alone to go look for her dad.
The party moves from the church to a boat to go to the venue and after some struggle, she gets the last seat left; right in front of the bride and groom.

Chip finally notices her and hes all ? The new wife is whiny about it and Mags just tells them shes happy for them and that shes moved on but of course he doesn't buy it.
A groomsman or some shit sees her and yells that she's there to sabotage the wedding and she goes into a whole speach about how shes happy but of course no one believe her.

Out of nowhere, someone yells at the boat to stop and it turns out to be Ian and right there in front of Chip and the entire party he confesses his love for her and they fully make out the rest of the trip and her parents are yelling at her over a bridge and it ends up being a very her moment at her ex fiance's wedding and......no drama happens.

Turns out, Ian follows Kit on IG (it's a whole thing that I dont give a fuck to get into) so that's how he knew they were heading over and they had planned that he'd talk to her while they were away at the wedding but at the last minute, Mags went in Kits place because Kit was hella sick. (read: shes pregnant)
And that's how it ends.

The epilogue takes place 10 years later
Kit ends up having an I forgot what she called it ceremony and she marries Fat Benjamin and they have 3 kids with fucked up names.
Mags and Ian end up married and running the camp. They have twins.
Their parents ended up getting back together and as if the dad wasnt already dealt a shitty hand, he gets cancer and dies I think like 5 years in.

And yes, I left out a lot but I'm over it.

Oooh, and the reason that Ian is grumpy is because he was engaged to Kayla and they had planned to get married but she went into a store to buy popcorn so that she could watch the Oscars but was killed when some kid went in and started shooting up the place.
He hadn't moved on from that.
