Karen and Tom Krupp are happy—they’ve got a lovely home in upstate New York, they’re practically newlyweds, and they have no kids to interrupt their comfortable life together. But one day, Tom returns home to find Karen has vanished—her car’s gone and it seems she left in a rush. She even left her purse—complete with phone and ID—behind.

There's a knock on the door—the police are there to take Tom to the hospital where his wife has been admitted. She had a car accident, and lost control as she sped through the worst part of town.

The accident has left Karen with a concussion and a few scrapes.  Still, she’s mostly okay—except that she can’t remember what she was doing or where she was when she crashed. The cops think her memory loss is highly convenient, and they suspect she was up to no good.

Karen returns home with Tom, determined to heal and move on with her life. Then she realizes something’s been moved. Something’s not quite right. Someone’s been in her house. And the police won't stop asking questions.

Because in this house, everyone’s a stranger. Everyone has something they’d rather keep hidden. Something they might even kill to keep quiet.

MY THOUGHTS
SHORT VERSION:
YES! i could not get enough!
I'm a Shari Lapena fan for liiiife!

LONG VERSION
yas! library audio books coming thru!!!!
i loved Shari's first book. i couldn't get enough!
i should have been better about following up on her because not only did she have this book out, she also has a 3rd one out that's currently sitting on my dresser right now waiting to be read and another one on the way in August.
I LOVE HER!!!!

it's all very suspenseful.
and i love that even when you get to the very end, after its all been uncovered, there's still one little thing that she adds on. actually, make that 2.
like this story: you find out the truth and then at the very end (i think its an epilogue..not sure since I've read several books since....) there's two extra little twists that made me love this book even more.

i think this is the perfect amount of suspense for me. i don't handle supreme suspense or scary anything very well so this was a perfect read.
i read it back in January and i still feel love for it so for me, its a definite read. this is another book to my must buy list as soon as i get a chance.

I'm surprised by how short this is so I'll just end it here. but like always, jump on over for spoilers!

thanks for reading! (:

SPOILERS

lets make this one fast because i don't recall every detail...just the big stuff.
still worth reading.
but also, my quick version is nothing like this one. so if you want an even faster one, head on over there.

Tom arrives home to see that Karen is gone and has left her purse, drivers license, cell phone and everything else behind only to find out from a police officer that she was in a car accident in the bad side of town.....and later on it is discovered that her accident was right near the scene where there was a murder.

Karen used to be married and living in Las Vegas but fled due to an abusive husband.
she met tom and fell in love and they married.

and now, her exhusband is back for her.

the characters: Tom (husband #2), Karen (who knows her real name, i don't remember), Richard (i think that's his name and if it ain't, it is now, husband #1) and Brigid (how annoying).

the night of the accident, it was Richard that was killed.
and it was Karen who did it.
(i still don't know why she crashed. if it was on accident or purpose... but i have to assume on purpose because of the amnesia).
Brigid was there and saw it happen.

Richard was a money launder and Karen wanted the money so she built up a story that he was an abusive husband and started visiting a woman's shelter to solidify her story.
he never once laid hands on her.
once she had enough to move on, she faked her death by committing suicide and ran away to New York where she eventually met Tom, fell in love and married him.

Brigid used to sleep with Tom. she lied to him and told him that her marriage had fallen apart and was headed towards divorce when in fact it wasn't. once he found out she was lying he cut it off and she became obsessive.
she tried friending Karen as much as possible but of course Karen held out because she had her own secrets.

the night of the accident/murder, Richard had asked Karen to meet up with him to confront her and get his money back. she took her weapon and she killed him. Brigid had been following her, heard it, and went in once Karen took off. she took the weapon with her to hide it in Tom and Karen's home.

while the cops are trying to piece everything together, Karen realizes that someone has been in her home moving their things around. turns out it was Brigid who had a copy of their key from when she used to hook up with Tom.
her DNA is EVERYWHERE!!!!!

all this happens and when they finally gather evidence to book Karen, while she is in jail, Brigid goes over to tom's and while hes drunk out of his mind, they sleep together.
he realizes what he did and tells her to leave.

during court, it is found out that Karen was in an abusive marriage which caused her to flee and buy a new identity and that the murder was in self defense.
and she gets away with it because Brigid a) had messed with the evidence and b) made it be known because she kept getting in touch with the cops trying to make sure they caught all the evidence that she had planted.

forget that i had told you anything about Richard not being abusive and that he was a money launder for a quick second.

at the end, you see Karen heading out on the train somewhere. she's going to go collect the 2 million she stole and hid in a bank from Richard.
here is where you learn that Richard never laid a hand on her and that she built a case against him to help her out years later.

BITCH IS BAT SHIT CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!

she had this all planned out and she knows very damn well she would have gotten caught had it not been for Brigid trying to frame her.

Karen was just crazy.

you also learn that CRAZY ASS BRIGID IS PREGNANT WITH TOM'S KIIIIID!!!!!

fuuuuhhh!!!!

as always, there is a lot i still left out. but i definitely recommend this book.

***EDIT!: i have bought the book since and skimmed it through and MAH bad. homeboy's name is NOT Richard. its Robert.
sorry Rob, RIP
