The danger isn’t all in your head . . .
Growing up, Kate Priddy was always a bit neurotic, experiencing momentary bouts of anxiety that exploded into full blown panic attacks after an ex-boyfriend kidnapped her and nearly ended her life. When Corbin Dell, a distant cousin in Boston, suggests the two temporarily swap apartments, Kate, an art student in London, agrees, hoping that time away in a new place will help her overcome the recent wreckage of her life.
But soon after her arrival at Corbin’s grand apartment on Beacon Hill, Kate makes a shocking discovery: his next-door neighbor, a young woman named Audrey Marshall, has been murdered. When the police question her about Corbin, a shaken Kate has few answers, and many questions of her own—curiosity that intensifies when she meets Alan Cherney, a handsome, quiet tenant who lives across the courtyard, in the apartment facing Audrey’s. Alan saw Corbin surreptitiously come and go from Audrey’s place, yet he’s denied knowing her. Then, Kate runs into a tearful man claiming to be the dead woman’s old boyfriend, who insists Corbin did the deed the night that he left for London.
When she reaches out to her cousin, he proclaims his innocence and calms her nerves . . . until she comes across disturbing objects hidden in the apartment—and accidentally learns that Corbin is not where he says he is. Could Corbin be a killer? And what about Alan? Kate finds herself drawn to this appealing man who seems so sincere, yet she isn’t sure. Jet lagged and emotionally unstable, her imagination full of dark images caused by the terror of her past, Kate can barely trust herself . . . So how could she take the chance on a stranger she’s just met?
Yet the danger Kate imagines isn’t nearly as twisted and deadly as what’s about to happen. When her every fear becomes very real.
And much, much closer than she thinks.

MY THOUGHTS!
omgod this freaking boooookkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love the living crap out of this book!!!!
UGH!!!!!

this is how i know I've been reading YA a little too long. because this book left me scared to sleep once i got into it and jumping all over the kitchen every time my dogs barked.
the other day i was eating in the kitchen and i was in a particularly intriguing part when my dogs started barking.
i jumped up SO high, i left my sandals and everything and ran to the living room ready to attack! (i think i was also scared because my back was to an open door lol!)
seriously, once it got to the the "thriller" part of if, i had to stop reading it because i was scared all alone in my room.
but please note, I'm a huge chicken shit so don't take my commitment to its scariness too serious.

T H I S   B O O K ! ! !

even if the ending was a little, meh, i still loved it because this freaking story had me glued! i couldn't wait to get deeper and deeper into the story.
i really liked the multiple points of view that this is told in and honestly, it only kept getting better and better for me.

and then the Henry chapter started (towards the end) and i was kinda over it because it was kind of like re-reading what i had already read BUT it gave me more insights into the other point of views.
like, i saw how things happened from Corbin's & Kate's side but then to have his side just put it all together even more!

and JESUS!!!!!
poor Corbin. i mean, obviously he was a big fuck up too but damn. talk about not being able to live your life. and now, while he was caught for some of his things, he'll never be cleared of Rachael....(will spoil below).

the whole entire time i had NO IDEA who had done it!
my mind kept going everywhere.
at one point i thought it was the lady who owns the cat, Sanders! i thought maybe, because no one ever really saw her out, that she didn't really exist and the killer lived there pretending to be the old lady.

I'm telling you! it was everywhere.

you do find out who the killer is waaaaaaaay before the story is over and that might turn some people off but i was so hooked on the story that i didn't even care and it actually helped me focus more on the story vs trying to figure it out all along.

i will say that Kate has some fucked up luck though.
like how much shit can she really be going through.
and her parents!!!!
after what she went through, how can her mother just be like..."yea it doesn't matter anyway cause you won't do it....(BITCH!)" like, giiiirl! that's yo' child. how are you just going to send her across the pond knowing that the sight of a leaf scares her half to death!?

but also, seeing how afraid Kate was of basically everything, she wasn't really written that way. she knew there was a killer basically on the loose and in her immediate area but yet, she still remained. given her past, i would have fled the fuck out of there faster than my brain could have processed the thought!

anyway, i know this story might be a little far fetched but i loved it.
absolutely looooooooved it!
I'm definitely glad that i read it and i might even look into some more of his work!!!!

ill leave ya here. but jump on over if you want to read the spoilers!

thanks for reading.

SPOILERSSSSSSS

Kate and Corbin switch places because he's trying to get away from his home and Audrey.
and Kate wants to get away from the thought of George and what happened to her.

so they switch and when she arrives, she arrives to a friend of Audrey's looking for her, panicking the fuck out. ...only to realize that she was dead in the apartment next to her all along.

she runs into Alan, a neighbor that looks straight into Audrey's place and he basically tells her that he used to spy on her alllll the time.
he became fixated on her but he never got to really meet her.
then one day, he sees that Corbin goes over.
and continues to go over.
until he left for London and she turns up dead.

he tells Kate and the cops and Kate knowing this still has a good feel about him.

one morning, she finally leaves her apartment to go i forgot where when she "runs" into Jack Ludovico.
he claims to be an ex of Audrey's who had recently gotten in touch with her. and basically he just wanted to know what she knew about her death. claiming that he had spoken to the cops and all this nonsense.

meanwhile, Corbin is in London barely finding out about Audrey's death.
and we flashback to when he met Henry. they were both studying abroad and as it turns out, they were both dating the same girl. Claire.
and while it was never spoken between Claire and Corbin that they were an official couple, when he found out he lost his shit.

so Henry comes up with a plan to "scare" her and they set it in motion.
the plan was for Henry to convince her to take pictures in a lone cemetery (Uhm, bitch, NO! wtf!) and then they'd "find" Corbin dead and then they'd be all haha, jk it was just a joke, stop being a hoe!

except that she gave Corbin this "pity" look that made him lose his shit and he ended up pushing her and breaking her head open.
and then Henry joined in on the "fun".

so they go bury her but while they're burying her, Corbin loses his shit and goes to puke.
and when he comes back, Henry had split her in half. from the top of her head to about the middle of her stomach i believe.
he freaks out even more.
they take Polaroids of each other next to the body and keep them of one another as insurance that no one will ever speak of it.
then they decide its better that they no longer talk.

they go back to the US and Corbin starts looking for him.
he finds Henry, they become brothers basically and then find another victim.
here comes Linda
i won't get too much into it but basically, Henry's plan is to get rid of the women that no one wants in the world that two times men.
and Linda was the next woman.
except this time it was kinda Corbin seducing her. and she kinda WASN'T FREAKING DATING HENRY!!!!
so they kill her too and back to the split.

i honestly forgot if there was another woman in between here but Corbin calls Henry and tells him that he's out of the game....and Henry says okay.

then he goes who knows where on vacation where he meets Rachel and they start dating without strings attached.
just while they are both there.
...vacation is over, they go their separate ways.
she gets in touch with him about meeting up in the same spot over the long weekend but he ignores it and goes on a work trip.

BOOM!
she's dead the next time he hears about her.
and in the same manner that all the other woman have been.
clearly, and he knows, its Henry sending him a message.

so now he's all paranoid and decides to live that celibate life.

and then he starts hooking up with his neighbor Audrey.
except that they keep it strictly to the the apartments. they are never seen in public.

and then Henry finds out about her and sets his plan in motion.

Alan confronts Corbin (before she is murdered) about his relationship with Audrey but he denies it. he then turns around, yells at her and tells her that it's over and heads out to London.

so now it's up to Kate to deal with it.
she starts to get suspicious about Corbin and eventually asks him.
he denies it so she decides to believe him.

she was told that she could stay in his home by Detective James (the detective on the case) because they have an alert on him at the airport.
if he tries to cross over, they'll catch him.
....but he already had another plan in motion. (he borrowed (paid off homeboy to use) some guys passport that looked very much like him and used that to cross over.)

meanwhile Kate is kinda all about Alan and eventually ends up sleeping with him.
to later on regret it when she wakes up.
she decides to stay home and because Henry had access to Corbin's house from the back (the basement) he basically moves in with her.

then one night, she falls asleep watching tv and she gets woken up to Corbin holding her mouth shut and telling her to be quiet because there is a bad man in the house and telling her to hide in a closet.

so she does and then Henry and Corbin confront each other.
they exchange a few words and eventually Henry ends up cutting Corbin in the throat (he had his thumb sliced basically off at this point).
at this point Kate has left the safety of the hidden closet and goes to Corbin only to end up getting stabbed by Henry himself.

while all this is happening (well a bit before), Jack calls the cops and tells them that Alan is the murderer because the weapon used to murder Audrey was hidden in his bag inside an umbrella.
so they arrest him and while they have him in custody, he tells Detective James that he feels that Kate is in trouble and that he should go check on her because of that cat scratch that Jack claimed was allergies.
so she goes and she walks in on Henry murdering everyone.

....get it!
JACK IS HENRY!!!!! and was Hank.

so when she walks in, Henry grabs Corbin and she ends up shooting Henry in the mouth and he dies instantly.

Corbin dies on the way to the hospital.
and Kate gets taken to another hospital after not even realizing that she has a knife in her back.

...her parents come to see her and they want to take her back but she decides to go on a solo trip and she comes back to Boston to end up with Alan (he told her that he loved her and that he wanted her to move in with him.)

and that's it.

and i know i wrote out most of it, but there's still a lot i left out!!!!!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!

and i know that i spilled a lot but there's still even more i left out!

EEEK!!!
