came back a little bit better here.
this one was interesting to me in the way that everything was set up so that the bad guys could take care of themselves.
definite pick up after book #4 was a bit of a let down for me.
it was an interesting choice to write about this wealthy ass dude who is killing elderly people for a fee so that the rich, snotty heirs could get their hands on the money that is owed to them just for simply existing. and while that is the plot for this story, i feel like it focused more on taking the bad guys out and making all of that happen vs spending time on killing more elderly.
i liked the way Nameless once again made the bad guys do all his "dirty" work for him but how he basically also said fuck it and took care of it himself too.
and now knowing the twist. per se, i gotta say!, i love how Koontz's minds works!!!

i'm not going to lie, but i didn't bother to learn rich dudes name so i'll just call him RD. there's also killer dude (who is more like an investigator? idk i forgot but he works for RD) lets just call him KD. Teresa is the only one i remembered.
so anyway, RD owns the senior's home that's so coveted. along with teresa they're in charge of killing of the elderly whose family wants them gone so that they can claim their inheritance with just a small fee from Rd.
pay up and RD & Teresa will take care of them for you.
they've been doing this a while and they're definitely hooking up.
in the beginning, KD is in charge of going through another elderly persons home to scare her a bit and get her worried. nothing was to be taken. it was just meant to look like for sure someone was there.
he does as he's told. (although he did take a pair of panties.)
meanwhile, Nameless meets with another elderly dude whose wife and two other friends were killed. after their back to back deaths, he started investigating on his own to see if this was common.
it was.
he also noticed RD meeting with someone and exchanging a brief case.
Elderly dude finally caught RD's attention and RD told him that if he didn't cut his shit, he'd basically make his special ed grandson pay. (he provided pictures of the kid. some as up close as the kid asleep in his own bed)
elderly dude drops it.
Teresa and RD have another job lined up so after work she goes home.
she notices someone has fucked with all her shit.
she starts thinking that maybe its time and that RD is looking for a way to get rid of her so he hired KD to start gathering information on her.
(see what happened there? the Ace team hired KD to spy on some other lady when in reality it was Teresa he was spying on. they did it because she's really anal about her shit so she would DEFINITELY notice).
Teresa retrieves her hidden camera and sees that its KD going through her shit.
so she gets her gun, goes to his house and gets ready to kill him but he's not there. in his home office however is a file with her name on it that looks exactly like the folder that they use when they're ready to off someone.
she leaves, calls RD, basically tells him to be ready to be DTF.
RD is so egotistical that when she tells him she wants him naked with his dick in his band, he says okay, doesn't questions and 100% thinks its really all she wants / all its about.
that's how he dies.
she walks in, starts fucking with him, tells him he knows, he thinks they're role playing and she ends up shooting him.
she chops off his thumb and goes to his safe to steal his money and all that other shit.
as she's taking his shit, she's aware of Nameless being there. she thinks "he's not a cop so i can get away with it." she tells him that she'll give him money but doesn't look at the luggage by her feet so as not to give it away.
he shoots her there point blank.
Nameless goes back to KD's house. He's passed the fuck out.
Nameless takes the money and plants it all over him and other evidence making it seem like he got greedy with RD & Teresa and it was him that offed them both.
in a couple of days, everyone will learn the truth about RD and the rest of the gang.
