SYNOPSIS
Almost everyone in the small town of Splendor, Ohio, was affected when the local steel mill exploded. If you weren't a casualty of the accident yourself, chances are a loved one was. That's the case for seventeen-year-old Franny, who, five years after the explosion, still has to stand by and do nothing as her brother lies in a coma.

In the wake of the tragedy, Franny found solace in a group of friends whose experiences mirrored her own. The group calls themselves The Ordinary, and they spend their free time investigating local ghost stories and legends, filming their exploits for their small following of YouTube fans. It's silly, it's fun, and it keeps them from dwelling on the sadness that surrounds them.

Until one evening, when the strange and dangerous thing they film isn't fiction--it's a bright light, something massive hurtling toward them from the sky. And when it crashes and the teens go to investigate...everything changes.

MY THOUGHTS
SHORT VERSION
yea i liked it but i have no idea wtf i just read.

LONG VERSION
Ahm, hmm.

I finished this book at about 230/3am Saturday into Sunday morning. (I'm writing this the day I finished it at 12pm now but who knows when I'll get to publish it since I'm a bit behind actually posting these)....
And I have to say, idk wtf I just read.

Emily Henry is known for her magic/surrealism writing and I love her for it. Admittedly, her first book had me a bit lost. i didn't really know what i was reading. and meanwhile for her second one I was a bit more prepared on what to expect and had a better grip, her third book completely threw me off.
It's still surrealism. Just, in a different angle (?). I'm not sure.

I've read that this book is compared to the serpent king and stranger things.
I can see stranger things. I'm a huge chicken shit so I was already scared reading a few pages in, in the dark in my own room! but over all, yes. I can see the resemblance. it has soome outer space thing that's running amok in the town and of course the kids are left to well, figure it out.

As for the serpent king, well, I wasn't a fan of that book. There certainly were moments that I loved but I still stand by the whole "nothing really happens" thing except for it ripping your fucking heart out bc of Travis! I can see that it's the same in the aspect of friendship. Instead of 3 its 6. And I honestly loved this group of 6 (some more than the others and maybe it was their interactions with each other vs them individually) and also the whole small town/nothing will ever happen here & were doomed basically if we stay/we gotta get out of here deal.

basically, those 2 match this book in the sense that:

Small town = small town tragedy: ✔
Friendship bonded together over tragedy: ✔
Beat this shit together & live happily ever after: ✔

...as much as I wanted this book not to be compared to TSK, well, it is similar. Lots.

Especially in the sense that, a whole lot of movement happens but, nothing really explains the happenings until pg 320. And this book is 340 pages long.

So much was going on with everyone having a piece of something going on, and all the Ahhh!!!! And you finally piece it together starting chapter 34 and then you're like oh! This is what it's all about.
And....well, really?

In the sense of a reader I was like really!?
ALL
OF
THIS
just to get this!?

But then as I'm assuming Henry might have ever felt, I'm like oh, okay. This is about the universe and how shit happens and how a million things have to happen to give you what you currently have and you should appreciate it no matter what because its yours!

This books a lot about black holes and the universe and the Fibonacci spiral and it had me all over the place and more lost than not. It talked a lot about outer space shit that I've never even heard of and man, Henry really shows her knowledge here. I can imagine someone who loves outer space and stuff like that geeking out over this (assuming that it is all correct. I honestly have no idea.)

I'm rambling on.

Overall, I'm glad I read it.
I'm probably going to have to re read it several more times to fully understand it.
But I gotta say, if I look at it from the "universe and everything happening to give you what you have" angle, then good fucking job.
But I also gotta say, A LOOOOOOOT happens, too much, to justify the reasoning in regards to why it all happened for me.

I cant really spoil it for you in details because i don't even know how to explain it as i read so just jump over for the allness of it.

Thx for reading!

THOUGHTS
I dont have the energy so lets just say that i liked this one more than her other two.
like a lot more.
like this one makes sense and i dont understand how everyone loves all others more than this one.
this one has a decent guy in the story.
CHARLIE!!!!
omg! he was, well, he was Charlie but it was refreshing to have a main dude not be such a turd.

anyway.

also - LOL 😆 the way Henry beat it into us that Nora's mom REPEATEDLY told her that her "unmentionables" should always be cute and matching because you never know, so that when Charlie finally gets to take em off we know why she's in exotic undies while they're in the middle of pic'n save getting it on in the middle of nowhere.

theres a lot more to this story (like the sister plot) that completely went over my head (well it didnt but because i still live with my sister, meh - ya know? lol. i love her but i see her every day) because thats not where my focus was if that makes sense, so i would like to listen to this one again and see it from that point of view.
im not sure when buuuut maybe in a few years.

so uh yeah.
liked this one. i had to do it audio cause i dont have the mentality to deal with reading but it was a nice switch for me from Henry. i can get behind this one. and it irks me to no end that everyone is like "I don't like this one because Charlie was bland." Okay fucking liking your toxic ass men.  ....anyway, I'll behave.

okay next.

SPOILERS
Nora can't let anyone in because she's been in charge since her mom RIP'd and it's been basically survive ever since.
she's tryina promote or publish or get her writer to do some shit and she somehow lands in the town where the story takes place. (Her sister pushed her into it). This happens after she fails at selling Charlie the book she's dealing with. It just so happens that Charlie is also from that same town.
AND he also happens to be there at the same time.

She's dealing with her mommy issues
Charles has his shit but he's still the fucking fluffiest pancake you eva had (or whatever you like to eat). And in the end they end up together.

obvs theres a lot more but meh.

I'll probably do another listen since I own the audio and do a better post then but until then good'ay ladybugs and gentle germs, this is all I gots to give right now. 💙
normally i dont care to show my tattoo but it managed to sync with this book...read and you'll see

SYNOPSIS (amazon)
Natalie's last summer in her small Kentucky hometown is off to a magical start . . . until she starts seeing the "wrong things." They're just momentary glimpses at first—her front door is red instead of its usual green, there’s a preschool where the garden store should be. But then her whole town disappears for hours, fading away into rolling hills and grazing buffalo, and Nat knows something isn't right.

Then there are the visits from the kind but mysterious apparition she calls "Grandmother," who tells her, "You have three months to save him." The next night, under the stadium lights of the high school football field, she meets a beautiful boy named Beau, and it's as if time just stops and nothing exists. Nothing, except Natalie and Beau.

SPOILERS
i couldn't even try to spoil it all for you even if i wanted.
it wasn't until AFTER i wrote my ramblings that i realized in the end, it left me with some unanswered questions but i didn't even mind. and not even questions but like, i just wanted to know what happened to her mother and father and sister. i know her brother Jack grows up to marry a loving man and have children. ...but that only took place if....

anyway.

that apparition, grandmother.
boy i did not see that one coming.

Natalie was given up for adoption.

and her adoptive mother was in a car accident.
it messed Nat up so bad that she gets taken in to have her memory erased of that moment, sort of, if you will.
but she keeps having nightmares.
the same one over and over about the car accident. and it isn't until later on when she's hypnotized or whatever you call it that she realizes that it isn't a dream but a memory.
and grandmother is there to tell her stories. stories which will prepare her.

when her mother crashed, another car crashed as well. in that car was Beau and his father and in that universe, B doesn't make it.

to avoid the long-ness that this could be, I'm just going to cut to the chase.

grandmother is actually Natalie from the future coming back in time to tell her (herself) that she has 3 months to save Beau before the portal closes and its too late.
so that's what she does.
she goes back in time to the moment of the accident and because her love for B is so pure and so strong, she gives up her life for his. thus altering everything from that moment on.
because there is no her and he has a second chance.

and the trippy part is that it's future Natalie telling now Natalie to go back in time and save Beau (basically killing herself) so that he has a chance.
its like, she lived but is now going back in time to tell herself to save someone else. even if it means that now Nat will never see whats going to happen with future Nat. (yea. my head hurt too!)

except that, (and i don't know my Bible so .....) she survives.
as Abraham gave up his son for God, ultimately sparing him because of his commitment, so is Natalie.
because she has seen His face and heart just as He has hers.
(did i just read a somewhat religious book?)

i could see where people get messed up and think that they're not sure whether she ends up dying or living.
luckily because I'm impatient, i read all those comments that stated that they didn't know so i knew to super mega uber pay attention to the end once death was mentioned.
but that's my interpretation.
to me, she survives BUT they are in their own version of their universe.
it could mean something else to someone else.

all i know is, there's a crap load i left out.
soo....ya know, you gotta read for yourself.

MY RAMBLINGS
(just thoughts on the book itself)

first and foremost, this book was beautiful.
i fell in love with it when it was first released back in January because of the cover but it wasn't until right now that I'm having the library loves that i decided to check it out.

i made the fatal mistake of going on to goodreads to read the reviews and i was thisclose to being swayed away from it. i was thinking of putting it down and reading my 2 other books. but something told me stick to my gut and keep on truckin' and I'm sooo glad i did!

the love that split the world, Emily Henry, thank you for making this my farewell book to my 2016 goodreads challenge (25/25).

this book is so beautifully written, i don't even know how to convey into words.
let me start by telling you this.......
i was lost about 90% of the book. the twists and turns....i didn't see what was happening til literally the very moment i started reading the first word of the sentence explaining what i didn't understand previously.
the whole time travel thing threw me for a loop. i didn't see that twist coming but it was amazing.

this is the kind of book I KNOW i can read a second time and appreciate more because now that i know what happened, how it happened and why it happened, my eyes, my mind, heck even my soul will be more alert and accepting of what takes place.
i will be more aware of what takes place and i will better understand the read as i re-read it.
I'm definitely buying this book when its comes out in paperback (hopefully next year) and reading it again.

usually when i read a book, i can clearly visualize or create the scenario of what I'm reading in my mind but this is hands down the first book where i could CLEARLY see the location and the emotions that EH was trying to convey. the scene where she talks about the church and how it looks different, i pictured myself in that scene and my god, it was  b e a u t i f u l.

this book is just, ahh!
yes its YA and yes its a love story (typical) but i feel like it was more than that.
it was more than any other YA book i have read. i feel like....i feel like I'm beyond grateful that this book was a part of my life.
this one will stay with me for a while. its weird because i wouldn't say its my favorite (i honestly don't know what book is besides the witches by R. Dahl) but this book, i don't know man, it did something to me. it freaking moved me.

i will say this though, based on the goodreads review, please take my review lightly. not because I'm not confident in the book but simply because we all have different tastes.
i honestly don't think everyone that bashed it made it through completely so they missed out on the beauty of the stories within and the meaning behind her decision of it all.
and well, those that did make it and just didn't care for it, well i don't know.
i wholeheartedly loved this book and i stand by my "review" but i understand its not everyones cup of tea.
i wont try to convince you or anyone because i feel that you need to want to read this book on your own.
for once i wont tell you to pick it up right away.
i want you to come to love it all on your own when its your time.

....and that's how you know i love a book. I'm telling you to leave it all to me! (jk)

as always, ill leave you with a few quotes.

"i realized then i didn't know where the fake me ended and the real me began."
-Nat pg 118

"we may be different, but in this moment were feeling the exact same thing: the sad kind of bliss where you realize, suddenly, how perfect your life has really been all along. so perfect it hurts, ......
so perfect that even though everything you know is ending, you truly believe life will continue to be beautiful....."
-Nat pg 130

"you never owe another person something, no matter how nice they are to you. relationships aren't transactions."
-Nat pg 145

as always, thank you for reading.

THOUGHTS
I liked it in the end overall but I didn't love it?
(might be a bit spoilery from here on our but not really. just warning y'all.)

January irked me.
I feel like she felt like she was entitled to everything upfront even when she herself wasn't being 100% open from the get go. (Liana, anyone?)
I felt she was very whiny about life and I get it, her dad had just passed a year ealier and there's a lot of other shit involved but.....to me she was too whiny....
like she clearly didn't hurt that hard over the end of her relationship with Jaque*** but she kept bringing him up. and I get it; you're still allowed to feel hurt when something ends even if you knew deep down in your core that it was never going to be for you in the first place but I just felt like she didn't even bother to feel that. she was just detached when it came to them. maybe because she was drowning under everything else that this being the least of her worries was obviously the easiest to go? Idk. (but if that's what Henry wanted us to feel then FUCK ME!)

but anyway, this would have been better had she been made to be strong, not because women are only always strong and have no other emotions or choice but because she understands the complexities of all of the emotions so she knows how to cope and speak her emotions, all of them, properly....when she's upset, she speaks on that instead of getting drunk and waiting for the liquid courage to kick in. I feel like at the end of it all she was too 😬 for the strength this role requires.
It's as if someone wrote the beauty that is Evelyn Hugo but replaced it with the 😶 story that is the unraveling of Cassidy Holmes. Knowing what Evelyn entails and requires, anything less than that just doen't work.
this version of January didn't not work but it just wasnt right.

[***(which by the way, should this ever be made into anything and they need a Jaques, please hire Julien. omg!!!! (watch him on holidate and you'll see what I mean. 🤤)]

And gus!, his little quiet side was cool but duuuuudeeeee!!!!!
like the whole disappearing thing and not saying anything to Jan was 🤯. not just once but every single time. and the biggest one is at the end where Jan ends up home solo and he doesn't even bother to give a fuck to contact her and see if she's any type of okay. just, *cricket noise.*
He'd just disappear to process and then reappear and expect it to be okay without explanation just because.
and just because he wasn't crying every 3 seconds like January was doesn't make him any less problematic. he's been dealt a shitty hand but he was not without love, he wasn't alone, he had a team, just not the one he wanted. he was afraid and scared to trust and it's understandable. But the whole disappearing act was just.......thats just another way that emotions and speaking words/time/space is wasted.

And also, that scene in the tent (you know, the one) really? Like really? That was kinda 😬. Yall were a few yards away from....and y'all were hooking up!?
They both did a lot of talking without doing a lot of taking but at the same time they weren't saying shit.....does that make sense?

For a lot of this book I was like 🙄 and then that shit with her dad pops up on page 316 and on and I was like fuck yea!
It finally picked up a bit for me there.
and if im being honest,  the only character I'm sympathizing with is Sonya.
she was the only one who had her head on straight I think. I love the way she snapped at January to get her shit together about her dad. "You have pieces of him. You're the last person on earth with pieces of him,  and if you don't want to look at them, that's your call. But don't pretend he left you with nothing."
she respected her space and left when they ran across each other but that last interaction they had!,
*chef's kiss*
Sonya might be the other woman but she's my #1.
not even Jan's mom was upfront about shit (which I get because she was the one being cheated on but still ya know)

Its a good story I just personally wasn't enamored with it. But I can definitely see why lots of people like it and maybe if I reread it another time I might vibe with it more but for now, its an okay read.

If both characters had just been upfront with each other and spoken with their chest instead of waiting for shit to fall over like a jenga tower so that they could then say what they were thinking then I think I wouldve loved it more because I loooove when people are upfront and honest about feelings, truths, everything!

I love Henry & will forever read whatever she writes because despite this not being a fave of mine she still has a way with words and she truly does have talent but my heart lies in her magical realism books (minus hello girls).

Anyway, yea. It was cool but not wow.
everyone in this town needs to grow balls.

Thanks for reading! 😄
Jump over for spoilers.

S P O I L E R S
January gets the house in Michigan and she can do with it as she pleases but she decides to sell it because who wants to keep their dad's fuck house.
But of course, right next door her arch nemesis, Augustus Everett, lives.

She thinks he's a dick but he's been in love with her since day -71627 he just didn't know how to tell her.

Blah blah blah.
They agree to each write about about what the other writes and whoever pubs it first, the other will endorse it left and right.

They end up hooking up even though she knows gus is a one time dude.
But it turns out that he's not, he's just used to people being dicks to him so he acts accordingly.
And it actually turns out he's married (going thru a divorce).

anyway, Jan's parents split up and when they did her dad went back to Michigan and ran into an old love of his life and they hook up but then mom gets cancer so he goes back but still kept hooking up with Sonja I guess (their affair is never really fully discussed) and then the dad passes away and Sonja shows up at the funeral to give Jan a letter and the key to the house. And the only reason Sonja did that was because SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THIS ENTIRE STORY WHO HAD A BIG ENOUGH BACKBONE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING!!!!
the dad had told his lawyer to leave that stuff to Sonja so that she could then deliver it to Jan because he knew that her mom would never be able to do that.

The dad might have cheated but can we talk about the emotional abuse he put Sonja through!???
UGH! 💔

So yeah....she's had the letter for a year, doesn't ever open it and it's not until one night that Gus' soon to be ex wife comes to one of their book reading things and she runs away and gus never follows up with her that she gets cornered by Sonja that she decides to read the letter and it turns out there's one for every birthday but there's also a boat in the marina with her name on it waiting for her (which by the way, who the fuck took care of it all this time?)

Dad explains the story but never mentions even being in love with Sonja,it was more like he wanted to see what his life could have been like (ugh, Sonja!) and so yea.

Blah blah blah.

Shadi finally comes over they clean, eat and breakdown and the next day gus blasts her with music and they dance in the rain. (Turns out his ex wife, Naomi wanted him back. ....this was after she left him for his best friend. 🙄😒😑). He tells her he wants to be with her norther if they don't get a happily ever after.

Jan sells the house,  a year passes and gus ends up proposing to her infront of fam by giving her a piece of paper that said Marry Me.
(When they were writing they would write notes to each other about sorts of dumb shit so....ya know)

And yea, das it.
The mom still never said shit.
They do have a call one night but nothing is talked about in the book.

Oh well.

SYNOPSIS
In their hometown of Five Fingers, Michigan, the O'Donnells and the Angerts have mythic legacies. But for all the tall tales they weave, both founding families are tight-lipped about what caused the century-old rift between them, except to say it began with a cherry tree.

Eighteen-year-old Jack “June” O’Donnell doesn't need a better reason than that. She's an O'Donnell to her core, just like her late father was, and O'Donnells stay away from Angerts. Period.

But when Saul Angert, the son of June's father's mortal enemy, returns to town after three mysterious years away, June can't seem to avoid him. Soon the unthinkable happens: She finds she doesn't exactly hate the gruff, sarcastic boy she was born to loathe.

Saul’s arrival sparks a chain reaction, and as the magic, ghosts, and coywolves of Five Fingers conspire to reveal the truth about the dark moment that started the feud, June must question everything she knows about her family and the father she adored. And she must decide whether it's finally time for her—and all of the O'Donnells before her—to let go.

MY THOUGHTS
SHORT VERSION:
good read. i really liked it but its not until now that i sort of have my Jacks in order.
(Jack is a family name and if i remember correctly, there are 4. once they start going into the past it was a bit of a doozy).

LONG VERSION:
i checked this out last year when i was in the middle of the rut. and it just sat there and sat there and i kept renewing it until i finally gave up and returned it.
in anticipation of her new book coming out sometime this year, i figured i should read this one.
now I'm kind of glad that i waited to read it. i don't think i would have enjoyed it as much the first time i tried to.

i really like Henry's writing. her imagination is amazing and i can confidently say that i will continue to read as she writes.

anyway, i really did like this book.
and can i be honest...it wasn't until bookstagram that i really noticed the kinds of reads there are....like for example, i know there's mystery and chick lit and things like that but other than that...i never really thought about the category books fell in if they weren't in the common ones. so i guess it wasn't until i read a comment calling this book magic realism...that i really started to think that that's what it was.
i don't know.
its weird. i know.
but....i think going into this book knowing that that's what its called or what some would call it kinda helped me out.
i guess that's why i understood this book a bit more than her first.
or not even understood but was able to read it with more attention and understanding.
.....
either way, i really liked this one.
i really liked her first book.
i cant wait to read her next book (already placed it on hold at my library).

i love how it's about a person discovering not only themselves but their family history.
how its about fixing whats been programmed to be broken simply because of a past that she's only a part of because of family but has nothing to really do with her.
i love her friendship with (im a horrible person and want to say this is her name but its been so long ang augh! so sorry!!!!!) Hannah. it's so refreshing to read a story about a friendship so deep like theirs and i absolutely love their love story.
i LOVED that friendship.
i loved how she wasn't afraid to stand up for what she knew she had to do.
i just loved this story so much!

basically, if you love getting lost in stories that are a bit more magical, then i recommend you read this. and her first. and possibly her next!

as always, spoilers below.
thanks!

just like that, its December 1st the weird year that was 2016 is ALMOST over.

(and by the time this is published, 2017 is basically a few short days/hours away!)

last year i got invested in my goodreads challenge and completed 25 out of 15 books!

...which is how i got my goal of 25 book this year.

I'm still debating how many books i want to set my goal at for next year. i don't want to compete against this years goal (currently 37 and at the time of this post, could still change) but i also don't want to put a low number that i know i can easily surpass. (and yes i know i can ultimately change it as the year progresses but shush.)

anyway, before i get into that dilemma, i wanted to do a recap on all of the books i read this year JUST like i did last year and see how i feel about them now that x amount of time has passed.

ready!
(i have NO idea why my post is being spaced out that way!!! sorry!)

JANUARY
A: Dean Koontz
R: 12-11-2015 to 1-11-2016
NOW: i think it trips me out still. i LOVE DK. he's my favorite author. this one reminds me a little bit about Tic Toc which was the first book of his i ever read. but as much as i said i liked it then, it doesn't drive me as crazy now.

A: Kim Holden
R: 1/13-15/2016
NOW: i still get mushy over it. I'm a sucker for love stories. it had a "sad" ending. but i mean she made everyone freaking happy. i can't hate on that. ahh! all of the tears at 1 am

3. GUS
A: Kim Holden
R: 1/19-20/2016
NOW: it was nice to find closure to all of the characters that met with Bright Side in the first book. loved it. still feel the same as i first did.

A: Amber Tozer
R: 1/22-25/2016
NOW: from what i remember, its her recovery from drugs and alcoholism (maybe just alcoholism). it further confirmed my fear in involvement in drugs but i do remember loving her writing.
SPECIALLY the letter at the end.
i loved how she retold some of her stories specially because now a days, you can't do the dumb shit everyone did back then. we don't live in that world anymore.

A: Elizabeth Kata
R: 1/25-26/2016
NOW: to this day, i think this is the most shocking book I've read this year.
not because ahh! (idk how to explain it) but because, fuck! everything went so wrong for her.
she tried helping someone and it backfired on her.
and it wasn't even until after i was done that i was like "OH SHIT, THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED!???"
loved this book. loved it, loved it.

FEBRUARY
6. WILD FLOWER
A: Drew Barrymore
H: 12/2015 to 2/4/2016
NOW: i heard this on audible because i had free credits. i think if i would have read this i might have felt differently about it. i might have read it faster, i might have loved it more. but i do remember there being a few chapters that i absolutely loved.
i might give this another try in another lifetime if its at the right price.

A: Lori Lansens
R: 2/6-8/2016
NOW: i checked this out from the library and i liked it so much that i went and bought it on my nook.
i actually went to the Palm Springs tram that they mention in the story and it was pretty awesome to see the scenery it took place in. i still love the little plot twist in the end.
still love this book

A: Liz Tuccillo
R: 2/15-19/2016
NOW: still LOVE the movie more than the book and will always advise you to watch vs read. and i still think the book was freaking negative AF!
ahh!
i still stand by my "how the heck did they make a movie out of this book" thoughts.

A: Jojo Moyes
R: 2/20-25/2016
NOW: still like this book. AND I ALSO LOVED THE MOVIE!!!!!! they left out 1 major element but it in no way took away from the movie.
definitely recommend you read the book and watch the movie.

A: Jojo Moyes
R: 2/26 to 3/17/2016
NOW: apparently i loved it because when it picked up, IT FINALLY PICKED UP. but now that time has passed i think we would have all been okay without book #2. but i guess i liked it then.
hhmmmm, time is a mysterious thing.

A: Camielle Pagan
R: 3/21-22/2016
NOW: as of now, this book doesn't really ring a bell to me. i remember reading it and apparently i liked it because it was good but then got me mad. so it made me feel things.
i just don't think it made that much of an impact if i cant really remember it without reading what i wrote. so i guess it was good for an at the moment read but not for a lifetime read.

APRIL
A: Fionnuala Kearney
R: 3/18 to 4/8  2016
NOW: JESUS ADAM!!!!!! how many secrets can a person freaking have? i mean, obviously we all know a lot but this book!
i liked it then for $2. still like it now.

13. CHASING SPRING
A: R.S. Grey
R: 4/19/2016
NOW: i mean, i read it in a day. i wish i could still remember what it was about but unfortunately, i don't without reading what i first wrote. i have read a couple of her other books (well, 1 anyway) and i think i see why people say they didn't like this one. i guess its because its more YA vs her other books that are more adult because of sexual content and more kinda romance but like they start with the couple that ends up together hating each other.
ya know what, this book was effin good. pick this one up before any of her other ones.

A: Sophie Kinsella
R: 4/17-23/2016
NOW: this book is the reason that i created my rating system (AND I FREAKING HATE RATING SYSTEMS!!!) i gave it a 2 then, but now that I've "tweaked" it a bit, I'd give it a 1.
i think i have anger towards this book because a) it was compared to Where'd You Go Bernadette and honestly, that comparison is a slap to the face to WYGB and b) because i spent money on the effin' book and nothing sucks more than wasting money on a shitty book.
"well Les, why didn't you get it from the library?"
shush. don't tell me how to build my library.
and i mean, i didn't think I'd hate it at all. let alone that bad.
the savior of this whole damn thing was Frank.
if he had a book alone, I'd read it. i LOVED him.

MAY
A: Bonnie - Sue Hitchcock
R: 5/5-8/2016
NOW: ahh! apparently i loved it but it doesn't really stir much in me right now. and after reading the description i wrote...i still feel like i liked it but its not too crazy for me.
but i mean i must love it if i want to buy a paperback copy later on life.

A: R. S. Grey
R: 5/17-18/2016
NOW: this is the second book i read and i still prefer chasing spring to this book.
its a stand alone book in a series (weird. buts its a stand alone story with 2 other stories that take place in the same area but with completely different people.)
this is the reason I'm glad i own a nook because i would have never been caught dead with that cheesy ass cover.
i think i read it in a day because i had nothing to do at work but it was okay. for $.99 ill read a book from an author I've previously read.
but also, i LOVE that this is part of what i originally wrote:
"this is everything 50 shades should have been without the promise of what 50 shades was supposed to be. but this wasn't as graphic so its more like 23 shades or something."

A: Beatrice Sparks
R: 5/22-23/2016
NOW: still scared shit-less by this book. another reason to keep hella away from drugs. but if I'm being honest, i KINDA wanna re-read the ending right now because i cant believe it! all okay to throw it away.
ahh!!!

JUNE
18. SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE
A: Morgan Matson
R: 5/30 to 6/23 2016
NOW: all i remember is that people can be great but then can still be a bag of dicks. i love that my thought now and the same thought then was that if you don't think about Kelly Clarkson when you read the title then you are missing out.
apparently i really liked it. i can recall a little bit about it but it doesn't drive me crazy now.

JULY
A: Matteson Perry
R: 5/17 to 7/18/2016
NOW: i love books like these where a person will talk about their life experiences. i remember a couple of stories and those i did like but it doesn't stick out to me like crazy.

A: Jenna Evans Welch
R: 7/19-20/2016
NOW: i remember some parts of it. but i do still feel love for it even if i cant remember much of it.

AUGUST
21. UNBECOMING
A: Jenny Downham
R: 8/4-16/2016
NOW: still don't care for it as much. I liked the grandma plot line but I didn't care for it then and I still don't care for it now.

22. TELL ME THREE THINGS

A: Julie Buxbaum
R: 8/17-18/2016
NOW: I remember parts of it but I do remember actually loving this book!!!! eeek!
I liked that people aren't always exactly how they look like.

23. WE ARE THE ANTS

A: Shaun David Hutchinson
R: 8/19-23/2016
NOW: I remember a lot of the pain that Henry had to endure and I still like this book a lot. I actually love it. I have yet to purchase this book but i definitely want this in my personal library.

24. NOT IF I SEE YOU FIRST

A: Eric Lindstrom
R: 8/24-28/2016

SEPTEMBER
25. THE LOVE THAT SPLIT THE WORLD
A: Emily Henry
R: 8/29 to 9/3 2016
NOW: this was the book that ended my challenge and I'm so grateful that I ended my initial run with this. I was lost a bit in the beginning with this book but once I understood what it was about I loved it even more. I'm DEFINITELY buying this book when it comes out on paperback. and this was also the first and only book that I highly praised and didn't recommend. I think you should come to this book on your own.

26. MODERN LOVERS

A: Emma Straub
R: 9/7-11/2016
NOW: a lot of this book got me mad. and just like then, I still don't really care for it.
how you gon' do what you did and then just walk away?

27. THE ASSISTANTS

A: Camille Perri
R: 9/12/2016
NOW: still love it. can't wait to own a copy of this because I flagged basically every page!

28. LILY AND THE OCTOPUS

A: Steven Rowley
R: 9/13-25/2016
NOW: I think this was the biggest let down for me book wise. it got so much high praise on and all over IG and it just didn't resonate with me. I'm not saying its not a good book it just wasn't for me. I really wanted to love this book more than I didn't.

OCTOBER
29. MOSTERS: A LOVE STORY
A: Liz Kay
R: 9/28 to 10/4 2016
NOW: I still like it but it doesn't strike an OMG chord with me. I'm okay with having gotten this at the library

30. PHANTOM LIMBS

A: Paula Garner
R: 10/6-12/2016
NOW: LOVED IT!!!! I love that it was a love story (YA read) I love that it was from a dudes point of view and I love that Otis was still team Dara even when he got the girl. but I also loved how it shows that one accident can ruin peoples lives in very different ways.

(definitely have to buy this for my personal library!)

31. THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR

A: Shari Lapena
H: 10/17-18/2016
NOW: LOVED IT!!!! another book I cant wait to buy. ahh! twist after twist!

(definitely have to buy this for my personal library!)

32. THE GIRL WITH THE LOWER BACK TATTOO

A: Amy Schumer
H: 10/20-24/2016
NOW: this was literally about 2 months ago and I already forgot what I heard. but I think that has to do with the fact that I was extremely busy. but it did have its funny moments.

33. THE REGULARS
A: Georgia Clark

R: 10/24-28/2016
NOW: this wasn't a bad book. it was funny when it was it just pissed me off that it was bad to do one thing EXCEPT for when that certain thing benefited anyone of them. so I guess the book did what it was supposed to do. this was a library read so I guess that's why I'm not so mad about it.

NOVEMBER
34. PUMPKIN THE RACCOON WHO THOUGHT SHE WAS A DOG
A: Laura Young
R: 11/4/2016
NOW: this was a suuuper quick read. I read it on a trip to B&N. its mostly pictures with very little stories. but this book made me realize that I might have more in common with a raccoon than I thought....starting indoor, entire house, pool parties. lol

35. THE HATING GAME
A: Sally Thorne
R: 11/8-13/2016
NOW: still love it. kind wanna buy the international version because i love the cover. but overall this was a cheesy ass love story and i loved every second of it!

36. THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR

A: Nicola Yoon
R: 11/13-17/2016
NOW: i love this woman. i always freaking will. i loved this book. i loved that this book will also probably be murdered as a movie.
i think i can honestly say that i will be buying every single book this woman writes.
its cheesy YA teenage love stories that she writes and i don't care. I'll yell it loud! I'm buying all of her books!

37. WITH MALICE

A: Eileen Cook
R: 11/20-28/2016
NOW: still don't care for it. i feel like this was another hyped-ish book and well, ugh.
the main chick Jill or whatever pissed me off.

DECEMBER
38. Landline
A: Rainbow Rowell
R: 12/4-11/2016
NOW: Neal is still a dick. this book still breaks my heart because i wanted to love it and i did a bit but overall if this were real life (minus the phone of course) i think that's a shitty way to feel / live in a marriage.

i'm still reading a book but there's no way ill finish it before the new year.

i mean, i can but i'm not even going to try too.
overall, i think i did pretty freaking great!
i read a lot!

i also started following a crap load of bookstagram accounts and i learned that as much as i want my own library, i want a quality one (one that works for me. I'm not judging yours or anyone's reads) with books that i love and will eventually re-read.
all those bookshelfies that have a loooot of books kinda scared me. i don't want to have books that i don't love and after reading Finding Audrey, that solidified my decision to finally get my book buying shiz together.
going to look into donating that book and others that don't make me happy to my local library.
....but if you want to see a home library that i did fall in love with, look no further.

as much as i read, there were a few that i gave up on.

FAILED BOOKS

Elise's words really stuck with me. life is too short to read something you don't like.
i gave those above as much time as i could make it buuut eventually, i just couldn't.
i still have 2 on my currently reading pile that ill hopefully get (read: get the courage) to finish sometime in 2017 but overall, i cant wait for the stories that are waiting to be read in the new year.

if you read all of that, THANKS!!!!
if ya didn't its all good. i cant really blame ya.

but i do want to wish you all, a happy 2017!!!!
nothing, personally to me, horrible happened so i cant really hate on 2016 but i think just as a part of humanity, 2016 took a crap on all of us, sooo let's just forget it happened!

thanks for reading a bit of my blog this year.
thanks for the comments and the love!

cant wait to see you next year! 😘💋😚😽
