SYNOPSIS

Lucia—current last name, Rickenbah—has made a fortune by marrying rich men who tend to drop dead. But the superstitious blonde believes in more than money and murder. Nameless’s job is to scare a confession out of Lucia, and as the psychological warfare escalates, even he may be in for a shock.

ooooh! this one was good.
i liked this one!
its only the third one in the series but this one by far is my fave!
especially because it has a lot of superstitions going on with the main evil character. and if you believe in them then this one is for youuuu. although, i can only really imagine this making you anxious.
anyway, i was shocked that this one had a female character since the last two were men but i liked that it was finally a woman. because they can also be evil. and evil she is but man was she fucked up in the head before she decided to be evil and take as she pleased.
this one was exactly what book one was: detailed but with a whole lot more.
man did they really fuck her up here.
i especially love how everything is all completely tied. from the name Nameless uses to talk to Valjean (Lucia's mom) to what that names actually means to Lucia.
the way that the superstitions get used!
and that end!
i mean the literal end.
haha!
i loved everything about this short story.
cant wait to see what else is in store!
the past cannot be altered but he can take steps to change the future.

it starts with Nameless visiting Valjean Jones.
he's trying to find her daughter. because her daughter has killed all 3 of her rich af husbands. girl collects them to collect.
on that trip, he also learns that she VJ also killed her husband and then fucked herself up to make it look like he fucked her up when in reality he was a good guy.
and who was there to witness it all?
Lucia. so she was clearly fucked since the very beginning.
the next 2 scenes are of Nameless visiting the kids of 2 of the dead men.
1 she killed while snorkeling and the other during a terrorist attack in Paris while she conveniently went to the bathroom. (the third, she killed by injecting him with basically trash water....something like that)
this woman is out for money.
but she is also very superstitious.
like don't step on an eggshell, offer crackers to the spirits once you arrive at home from a long trip, a butterfly in the dark means you're going to die soon and so many more.
SO in this one, Nameless goes to her house while she is in NYC and with the rest of the crew they set it up to taunt her when she gets back.
they start off by:
turning off the lights while she is in the house
making her step on eggshells
tempering with her tv bringing back one of her ex-husbands on the screen while he yells murder over and over. making it louder and louder. (i think it was the Paris one)
releasing smelling gas all over the home (i guess an ode to the trash water one)
eventually making her hide in the pantry where they then release some sort of blood looking liquid and a menu from the restaurant where she had her mans killed to push her further.
she's been in there for hours even though she thought it had only been a few minutes.
she's lost her shit.
while all this is going on (the set up anyway) they're buttering up Valjean with money to come see her daughter. and at first she's all fuck no but who knows what they tell her to make it happen.
so when Lucia finally comes out, she comes out to her mother standing in her kitchen.
VJ tells her that she's useless as a daughter for being a gold digger and not giving her any money. and she tells Lucia that Shepard Shaw went to visit her. she tells her mother that she is crazy. Shepard Shaw has been dead for yeeeeears!
Lucia eventually confesses but believes her mom is a 100% ape shit nuts. they then get in a fight and Lucia rushes her but Valjean stabs her to death.
(Lucia hid knives all over the bottoms of everything in her homes. a trait that she learned from her mother.)
Nameless is all wtf! we had her confession which is all we wanted but by then, VJ is already gone money crazy thinking that she is going to be awarded everything since her daughter is dead but Nameless tells her no because chances are her daughter did not name her the heir.
she goes bat shit crazy then out of nowhere this gusts of wind comes down from the chimney and kills VJ. (we are to assume that it is the spirit of Lucia.)
IT WAS AWESOME!
oh!, who was Shepard Shaw?
Lucia's first love.
he promised her love, marriage, the world, used her and got what he wanted so she killed him and then went home to bury him at her mothers.
ahhhh!!!!!
there is so much more! but go read it! its good!!!
