hmm...when i stop and think about it, this one wasnt as clever-ish as the first but its still good if only because it shows the "sense of humor" that they have for dishing out punishment to those that deserve it.
while this one wasnt as heavily detailed/planned as the first, its still, well, its very serving of how homeboy goes. i mean, i thought it was pretty clever. it only makes sense since, mountains and trails and shit.
i have always had a fear of hiking solo.
i now have an even more profound fear of hiking EVEN with someone else while carrying a loaded weapon. (i used to hike with someone else and well they showed me their true colors so humph!)
i guess my fear of going into my backyard past sundown is even more justified.
hell, even my fear of marriage has been further cemented. (LOL JK! but sorta)
im trying to be very, ahm, elusive (illusive? secret-ish) so that i don't give anything away.
but i will say this, if i was scared to go back to Yosemite after the Blairwitch project came out, this only proves to me that its better i enjoy it from a far.
or with a giant group. which i dont have. so from a far it is.

in this one, we follow Nameless. a sorta vigilante per say into Texas where he then takes matter into his own hands....so to speak.
and these short stories, i am assuming, follow him along kicking ass and taking names (doling out proper punishments to those that deserve it) that will ultimately lead to his truth? idk.... i cant wait to see!
he doesn't know who he is. his memory only goes back 2 years but something might be cracking because at the end he's getting this vision that he thinks might have something to do with who he used to be.
and i can't wait to see how it all unfolds!
since they're 6 short stories i was going to do them all together but then the spoilers are kinda long so i'll do them one by one.
but i will say this! go read them now!
at this point right now, i only have one book left in the series so i cant wait to see how it all ends and i definitely recommend these since they are quick thrilling reads!

now, i really have no idea why i picked this up. i own the shining but its been years and i know that i wont get to it (and i've made my peace with that) so im not sure why i got this one. but if i had to guess, it was 100% because i liked the cover. and because the synopsis did not sound scary at all.
i think the reason i'm scared of King is because i saw Christine when i was young and that scarred me a bit. ...and then you have IT, and Pet Sematary & Cujo and well, i mean, you can see where i'm going with this (besides anywhere near anything that i am trying to say about this book).
anyway, this read, er listen was......inneresting.
its almost 600 pages!
in some parts i was all "hell yea" about it but in others i was just like "why is this sooooo long!?" im glad that i heard it but i was even more glad once it was over.
i will say this and its probably the most important thing to come out of all this nonsense that im saying / you're probably skimming through right now.

this book takes you for a fucking ride. to get to the end and then try to imagine the peaceful beginning really fucks you up.
Homeboy is just trying to get to New York in a slow way. and then we're at the end and holy shit!

i just couldn't believe every single thing that every single character in this book went through to get what we get in the end.
it ends "nicely", with no loose ends, erm so to speak (it's safe to assume that...well, i don't want to spoil it here). i don't see there being a book 2. and while i would have liked for the kids to end up together in some type of capacity, im just choosing to believe they all do good by each other in the aftermath of the end.
its a good read. but it is a bit of a read. i started reading this back in October i think or whenever it came out and i got a few pages in but in the end, gave it up and ordered the audiobook through my library app. so either way is good but if you want something to listen to, i definitely recommend the audio.
so yea.....uhm, i guess i could say more but i dont want to accidentally spoil anything...and i just wanna move on sooo, yea.

*edit: after writing out the basic spoilers, i realized that this book might just be even better a second read around. so many details that tie up together and just all the work it took, i think re-reading it while already knowing what happens might make this even better the second time around. or first if you're down with spoilers like i am!

when i first wrote my thoughts about this book i really liked it but since i take forever to post, and I've had more time to think about it, to me this one was just an okay read.
i wasn't crazy about it. because while the steam factor is there (barely), not a lot of anything happens.
they hook up once, then don't and then i forget what happens in between, then they go for it again but she has a secret and then it comes to light and it all just works out. but it just didn't have pizzazz in the long run for me.
its nice that there's a story where the 2 main characters actually acknowledge how they feel about each other but i wish this one would have been more, for lack of a better word, saucy.
they are two young, hot af surgeons/doctors/whatever.
i wish they would have had more fun and maybe in the epilogue what actually happened could have happened then (although the epilogue was pretty funny!) because to me it just seems like it was all neatly taken care of. there wasn't any iduno....im over it.
i guess i can see why Nat is the way she is thanks to her mom buuuut.....iduno i hated that part a lot too.

i guess my other issue with this read is the way Connor is described...the guy on the cover does him no justice lol. kinda reminds me of her other book Make Me Bad.

i'm so glad that i came back to this story because i ended up loving it so freaking much!
originally i gave it up because i just couldn't handle the fact that it was about animals being left alone to fend for themselves on earth while humans went extinct.

(and yes i know animals have being doing their own thing since before we all came along and fucked it all up.) but just who i am as a human couldn't read this without being sad. i made it to page 35 before i gave it up. but then i had the idea to try it as an audiobook because I knew I could sorta handle that. (I also skipped to the back and got 1 spoiler and assumed it happened one way when in reality it happened another so that's another reason I wanted to skip because i couldn't handle it cause it made me sad)
OMG I'M SO GLAD THAT I GAVE IT THE AUDIOBOOK TRY!

i don't watch hockey so i don't understand it. which means that i also don't understand if the love of the game truly goes that far. and if it does, i'm definitely out. (which i know it doesn't. at least. i hope it doesn't.)
but in this book i definitely understand that its not even about the game anymore but just about how people can go too far for the sake of their pride.
i think this is what i thought book 1 would have been about. the whole rivalry thing. but of course none of this could've happened until it was set up that way which is what book 1 was about so i guess....
i, just like book 1, also did not like this story.
i hated the violent, hurtful turn this book took.
kids beating the fuck out of each other, outing each other, others being the adults in every situation instead of the damn adults! which speaking of...OMG the turn of events!
these two dumb towns fighting each other over hockey and adults turning against each other because of a dirty politician.
a kid dies, they almost literally roast a human, kids show their dicks to a woman because grown ass adult men are bitter about who's in their team now. people who claim to be all about loyalty change their minds the instant shit doesn't go their way....

im just glad to be done with this and i truly hope that there is no book 3 in any type of work in any freaking universe.
also, that synopsis is a bit of a lie because i will tell you this!: its not Benji who dies.
who knows what the fuck happens to him.
in book 1, i remember reading that the guitarist or whatever will one day look up at a billboard and see benji and think of their time. in book 2 he just leaves. what the fuck happens to benji to cause him to be on a billboard!?

oh! but i will say, Zachelle (Zachell? who knows i'm too lazy to look) she was probably my fave in this story!
anyway, once again i hated the story but i loved the writing.

When flirtatious banter turns into a kiss under the mistletoe, things snowball into a full-on fling.
Despite a ticking timer on their holiday romance, they are completely fine with ending their short, steamy fling come New Year's Day...or are they?
MY THOUGHTS
by this point, anything I say about the books in this series is kinda mute because we all know how i felt about all 3 books before (I seriously thought this was book 5 for some reason). But I must say, i was a biiiit surprised by this one if only because the events happened backwards instead of how they usually have. Meaning that in books 1-3, they all fucked around, fell in love, denied it, fought it and then realized "hey, we belong together!"

In this one, Vivian goes to England thanks to her daughter Maddie (book 3) who gets hired to style the duchess (and by the fucking way, V does fucking refuse. she only goes because Mads books her flight without giving her the option to back out.) On her first day she meets Malcolm and they both fall for each other. they spend time together and then he proposes that she stay with him so they can spend more time together. she stays, they do their thing, he tries to propose a long distance fuck buddy type of deal but she says no.
She flies home, they postcard mail each other, they talk about blah, blah, blah, she tells him she loves him, he bitches out and never replies.
and then he shows up at her house and they end up together.
basically, that's the entire story.
I mean there's some bits I left out (not a lot) but that's literally it. everything that's already happened before, happens again.
just backwards.
overall, i didn't hate the story but it didn't blow my mind. I did look up to see if there was a 5th book and it looks like there isn't.* It looks like a new one is coming out later this year that has nothing to do with this series (only assuming because the names have never came up in these stories) and quite frankly, I'm glad. I don't think I have it in me to read the same story set in their timeline that's just a repeat of all before it.
It's a quick read, and it's a fun one and I didn't hate it but I was over it rather quickly. I know i wont be thinking about it again. ..but hey!, another one down.
my question is though, and I know this is a fake story with made up characters so suspend disbelief here BUT imagine Alexa & Drew, Carlos & Nikki, Maddie & Theo and Vivian & Malcolm sitting around at idk, a bbq or whatever....you don't think they'd all be sitting there together when the sudden realization dawns on all of them that hey! We all went through the same shit! Isn't it all not so special?
I mean, because well, isn't it all the same?

basically, that's the entire story.
I mean there's some bits I left out (not a lot) but that's literally it. everything that's already happened before, happens again.
just backwards.
overall, i didn't hate the story but it didn't blow my mind. I did look up to see if there was a 5th book and it looks like there isn't.* It looks like a new one is coming out later this year that has nothing to do with this series (only assuming because the names have never came up in these stories) and quite frankly, I'm glad. I don't think I have it in me to read the same story set in their timeline that's just a repeat of all before it.
It's a quick read, and it's a fun one and I didn't hate it but I was over it rather quickly. I know i wont be thinking about it again. ..but hey!, another one down.
my question is though, and I know this is a fake story with made up characters so suspend disbelief here BUT imagine Alexa & Drew, Carlos & Nikki, Maddie & Theo and Vivian & Malcolm sitting around at idk, a bbq or whatever....you don't think they'd all be sitting there together when the sudden realization dawns on all of them that hey! We all went through the same shit! Isn't it all not so special?
I mean, because well, isn't it all the same?

SYNOPSIS
In a small town in Maine, recently widowed Eveleth "Evvie" Drake rarely leaves her house. Everyone in town, including her best friend, Andy, thinks grief keeps her locked inside, and she doesn't correct them.
In New York, Dean Tenney, former major-league pitcher and Andy's childhood friend, is struggling with a case of the "yips": he can't throw straight anymore, and he can't figure out why. An invitation from Andy to stay in Maine for a few months seems like the perfect chance to hit the reset button.
When Dean moves into an apartment at the back of Evvie's house, the two make a deal: Dean won't ask about Evvie's late husband, and Evvie won't ask about Dean's baseball career. Rules, though, have a funny way of being broken—and what starts as an unexpected friendship soon turns into something more.
But before they can find out what might lie ahead, they'll have to wrestle a few demons: the bonds they've broken, the plans they've changed, and the secrets they've kept. They'll need a lot of help, but in life, as in baseball, there's always a chance—right up until the last out.
MY THOUGHTS
This was an okay read for me.
It's a super easy, fast read (only 289 pages) but for some reason I only wanted to read it at work and then struggled a bit to pick it back up at home.
And today I thought to myself, "I am finishing this TODAY because I don't want to wake up to read it another day."
I just wanted it to be done and I found myself glossing over some parts of this story.
Evvie gave me super Eleanor Oliphant vibes in a way. Its just that Evvie was a bit more...sure of herself even though she also had her own set of issues.
maybe not sure but definitely not as retracted as EO was.
I loved the relationship between Andy & Evvie even though it was, I don't know, I bit farfetched (only because of the kids and every weekend for hours on end....but also, what do I know?) But I did love that they had their weekends and I loved that it also falls apart a bit. I thought that was a bit more realistic. Friends have fall outs. And the comebacks are always sweeter.
I also really liked Monica. I like that she was level headed and confident in A&E's friendship instead of being jealous about it. And I also loved that she was such a good friend to Evvie in the end.
I also like that E gets her happy ending after all even if it isn't her that is walking down the aisle but I think that was just perfect.
Overall, it was a cute story but I personally didn't connect with it like I know other people have.
I definitely didn't love it like others have.
There's a lot that I did like about it, especially the cereal box story!, but in the overallness of everything, it was just an okay read for me and i was counting down the pages til I'd be done with this read. and then ironically when I was at the end, i hadn't even noticed because I don't know, I just didn't.
Either way, I'm glad i read it.
I would've been fine never having read this but I'm not mad at all that i read it so it's all good I guess.
