Sometimes people cant help but make poor choices & hurt the ones they love, I guess pg.51

SYNOPSIS
Meet Anna K. At seventeen, she is at the top of Manhattan and Greenwich society (even if she prefers the company of her horses and Newfoundland dogs); she has the perfect (if perfectly boring) boyfriend, Alexander W.; and she has always made her Korean-American father proud (even if he can be a little controlling). Meanwhile, Anna's brother, Steven, and his girlfriend, Lolly, are trying to weather an sexting scandal; Lolly’s little sister, Kimmie, is struggling to recalibrate to normal life after an injury derails her ice dancing career; and Steven’s best friend, Dustin, is madly (and one-sidedly) in love with Kimmie.

As her friends struggle with the pitfalls of ordinary teenage life, Anna always seems to be able to sail gracefully above it all. That is…until the night she meets Alexia “Count” Vronsky at Grand Central. A notorious playboy who has bounced around boarding schools and who lives for his own pleasure, Alexia is everything Anna is not. But he has never been in love until he meets Anna, and maybe she hasn’t, either. As Alexia and Anna are pulled irresistibly together, she has to decide how much of her life she is willing to let go for the chance to be with him. And when a shocking revelation threatens to shatter their relationship, she is forced to question if she has ever known herself at all.

Dazzlingly opulent and emotionally riveting, Anna K.: A Love Story is a brilliant reimagining of Leo Tolstoy's timeless love story, Anna Karenina―but above all, it is a novel about the dizzying, glorious, heart-stopping experience of first love and first heartbreak.

IT JUST DIDN'T SEEM RIGHT THAT IT WAS SO FUCKING HARD TO BE GOOD. pg 37

THOUGHTS
SHORT VERSION:
holy fuck!
but yes!!!

LIFE BROUGHT TRAGEDY WITH THE SAME HAND THAT IT BROUGHT JOY. pg 364

LONG VERSION
phew. all i keep thinking about is "how the fuck am i going to write the spoilers for this one" cause this one is loaded.
what a wild ride.

this was a February pick for BOTMit wasn't my original pick but after some maneuvering, i was able to score it for $5. something about it was calling me to read it (even though it wasnt my first choice) but whatever it was worked because i have other BOTM books i gotta read that i haven't gotten too and out of all of those, this one won out.

i have never read Anna Karenina so other than what i googled, i really had no idea what to expect but i gotta say what i got was more than what i was expecting.

as someone who is insanely introverted (unless i really know you and even then) i was:
a) glad AF that i am no longer a teenager because wow
b) that social media was not a thing when i was in high school because wow and that
c) even though i'd rather stay home at any given time, i really wish i had had the chance to party it up at the likes of a party thrown by someone like Steven or Beatrice (minus all of the drugs but maybe even the drugs) because wow!

...and before i start rambling, i have to say that one of my most favorite things about this book was the first page that gives you a breakdown of all the characters that are in the story and how they are all connected. i have never seen that before and i wish it was thing in all of the books. it was a huge help when i was first starting this book and i kept going back to reference.

I know I'm supposed to suspend disbelief while reading this but you knooooowwww theres some teenagers out there who legit party this hard.
especially those that have "fuck you money" just as Lolly put it.
(dont think so? Drew Barrymore. and she was like 9!!!!)
wow.

I know its titled Anna K and obvs it was going to be about her but I liked that there were several other characters that added to the/her story (I'm assuming that's how the original story was too?).

I couldn't believe all the shit these kids got into. all the money they spent, all the sex they were having, the drugs they were doing, THE LIVES THEY WERE LIVING!
I also couldn't believe some of these parents!
oh my goodness.
you have one set of parents being hard ass fuck on their kids because they want to save face with society and here you have another parent telling their child to go be a hoe because said parent doesn't want to share their child's love. I was like whaaaatt!!??

....and all the connections between all the kids....

I couldn't believe Anna had to go clean up her older brothers shit but in the end, I really truly did love their relationship. I like the way they looked out for each other. Steven was there when he needed to be.
& then Lolly & Kimmie. ooof. but once again, by the end you see they have more sustenance.

I think the only character I was truly saddened by was Beatrice. the ending, she broke my teeny tiny little itty bitty heart a bit more. she was, ahm, well, fun. but her action in the end made me a bit sad. (yes, action. cause it was just the one thing).

as far as the ending, well, I don't wanna say because I don't spoil it for those that wanna read the book (and even those that have read the original) but it's a bit of an eye opener in how you shouldn't let others dictate your life. yea, they're young kids but I'm a huuuuge believer in love is love and if you love someone with all your heart, you shouldn't let anything get in the way. its a lesson Anna learns just a tad bit too late.
....its a lesson I learned a bit too late myself.

anyway, uh yea. this one takes you for a ride.
it took me a bit because I kept coming home and passing out right after work but on Thursday (3/5) when I picked it up at page 150, I did not put it down until I hit the very last page and I was emotionally everywhere on that ride.

I dont really wanna say anymore because I don't want to spoil anything here but pick it up.
I'm glad I did.

jump over for some spoilers!....just some cause this one packed a lot.
kthxbyye!
S P O I L E R S
Anna is dating Alexander the main dude of Greenwich. has been for a few years.
She is heading home on the train to go fix her brothers major fuck up when she befriends and elder lady.

They both get off the train and Steven is there for her.
Alexia "The Count" Vrosky is there to pick up his mother. (He's also the worlds biggest hoe...lol it just, it helps to know that).

Anna & Alexia (who is called The Count by everyone else) lock eyes and that's it. Its love.

He pursues her (with the help of his cousin Beatrice at some points) and there is chemistry but she manages to say no because of her boyfriend. Until she manages to finally listen to herself. She invites him over and they have passionate sex.

Prior to them finally hooking up, Beatrice (at the insistence of her cousin) threw a last minute party so they could be together in a public setting per se. Everyone is there but it's like only the two of them are there together.
....and then her mans Alexander shows up. .....with his annoying ass sister, Eleanor. They're there to take Anna home.
Why?
Because Eleanor is the most annoying human in all of the entirety of the world and is having a bday dinner for herself and is insisting that Anna be there so she begged her brother to go pick up Anna even though Anna had told them she'd drive in the next day.
So anyway, Alex is all come with me Anna is all no, Eleanor is bitching and whining and wont shut the fuck up and so they finally leave without Anna.
...on the way home they got in an accident which led to Alex breaking his leg.

Anna has been doting to him. The very night of the party she had decided she'd dump him but then the accident happened and now she feels bad.

The Count enters a horse competition shit thing and of course Anna is there.
What she wasnt expecting was to have Alexander show up with his sister.

The race starts, shit is smooth, next thing you know, The Count is down (and the poor horse is fucking dead). As soon as the accident happens, Anna loses her shit and runs from the stands to see if hes okay.

Everyone who was there has noticed the shift.

Alex knows.

He tells her he wants to leave and that she needs to go with him she gets mad but goes.

They end up taking 2 weeks off where she agrees that she also won't see Alexia.
Time passes, she breaks up with him, she goes to Coachella with the rest of the gang and Alexia is there. They reconcile and because of course they're in a private jet, they go to the room and have sex. While her brother is just a wall away.

They're close to landing in Palm Springs when the sex video leaks to everyone. A video of Alexia and Anna having sex.

A lot happens in here that I dont care to talk about and it turns out it was Eleanor that released the video (and obvs she's the onde that set it up).

In the end, Lolly has a performance and Anna finally comes out to after months of avoiding the world because the scandal only to cause her to overhear girls talk shit about her when she's in the bathroom.
So she leaves.
This is where Alexander learns it was Eleanor who fucked shit up and tells Alexia to go after her.

He does and he finds her at the subway or whatever the fuck where they first met.
Hes all we should be together, she's all no, they get physically passionate, the homeless dude from the beginning is all noooo shes a good person (how the fuck he remembers Anna but not good looking Alexia beats me) and tried to get Alexia to leave Anna alone, then the homeless dudes (Jonathan is his name) dog gets in the mix and ends up falling or jumping into the tracks so Anna goes after it and then Alexia goes after her, they get the dog out, they get Anna out, they're going to get Alexia out but he notices Anna's necklace and so he goes back for it and when hes finally ready to get out he slips and the train kills him.

In the end, Anna plans to kill herself in the same manner but backs out after she meets Natalia or whatever the fuck her name is. They start talking about love and how N read about this couple and their tragic ending but how the girl should know she was truly loved because look at what homeboy did for her.

And, theres a shiiiiiiit load I left out
But I'm hella once it so.... yea.

okay its a new day so ill do what i can.

Lolly and Kimmie are sisters.
Kimmie used to be a competitive ice skater but an accident has fucked up her career at age 15. prior to The Count and Anna meeting, they were fucking around. and i wouldn't really call it that buuuut she did lose her virginity to him. she thought that this playboy would leave his playboy status and make her his gf so when she saw The Count and Anna at another party she knew it was over.
prior to seeing them at the party (but at the same party) Dennis (used to be Steven's friend when they were kids who now gets paid stupid money to tutor him) asks Kimmie to prom, even if just as friends even though he is deeply in love with her. she tells him she cant because she is in love with someone else. ....and then she sees the count.
so she got "dumped" and fucked over another relationship.

it turns out that homegirl was suffering from i guess depression because of her career. it just took a bit to hit her. so she goes to some sort of rehab shit where she meets Natalia (tbh, i forgot if that's her real name but were sticking with it because i dont have my book with me).

in the beginning we learn that Dennis has a brother who is a junkie. the brother (whose name i cannot remember...Nathan? lets call him that) gets kicked out of the rehab for having drugs on him but in reality they were Natalia's. they fell in love.
Nathan is back in NYC but once he gets a call from Natalia, he steals his dads car and drives to Arizona to go after her.

Kimmie meets Natalia at the rehab in Arizona therefore meeting Dennis' brother but she didn't know they were related until Nathans funeral.

during all of this Kimmie learns more about herself and in the end, her and Dennis end up together.

there's still more but that's it for me.

*Dennis' brothers name is Nicholas. but im TOO lazy to go back and make the changes.

kthxiloveyoubyyyee
