SYNOPSIS
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged.

Left behind is a lonely fifteen-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from—a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

MY THOUGHTS
motherfu....!!!!!!!

i had started a review and it was already long and i had made all these damn points about why the story was good and it freaking got deleted and now my heart is broken and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and so I'm not going to dive into all that again because, well, ugh.

anyway, its a good read.
i went into it knowing the spoilers of the story as far as who dies and who did it but i didn't really know the why so i was really interested in finding that out. ....and woah!

first off, this is not like the girl on the train.
if you are going into it thinking that its going to be similar, put the book down, walk away and come back once you have forgotten TGOTT even exists. give this its own chance because it deserves it.

and once you do come back, come back with a notepad because there are about 14 (that i kept count of) characters that you're going to need to keep track of. im telling you this because this is how i have learned to keep track of different people in any of the stories i read....and then once i learn more about them, i go back and make notes because well, it never hurts to have info to look back on.

once you get the hang of them, you don't really need that list much anymore but i did find that it helped me out a lot more than if i wouldn't have done it in the first place.

anyway......because I'm heartbroken, ill just jump over to spoilers.

(i honestly had written a pretty dope detailed review. probably one of my best😢😭)

....bit of a tip: if you can, listen to this while you read along. i think that's why i ended up liking the book so much. it was nice to have a voice to the characters and it forced me to slow down a bit and take more information in than if i had just read it on my own.

oh! also, book 50 was a joke so not posting that (i got it from Net Galley trying to up my score even though i don't mess with that site anyway) and book 51 will go up sometime in November. i somehow lucked out and scored an ARC of Lance Rubin's new book, crying laughing so I'm waiting for that to be released.

jump over for spoilers!
thanks for reading!

S P O I L E R S
Nels was killed by Sean.

Patrick killed his wife.
Sean's father, Patrick, killed his wife (Sean's mum) because she was cheating on him. tbh, i think he was just a bit of a nutcase and thought women were property. he built it in Sean's head that his mum was having an affair even though no one saw her with any other man. EVER.

let me repeat that: SEANS MUM, PATRICKS WIFE NEVER CHEATED ON ANYONE.
Nels was writing a book about all the women that had died in the river and she came a bugging to Patrick who basically told her to ef off so she went to Sean. and even though Sean was married, they had an affair.
in the end, Sean killed her cause she wouldn't shut the fuck up about it.
post sex one day, she asked him to please recreate what happened. (in his head, because it happened as a kid and he has repressed it, he always thought his mum did it because the man she was having an affair with had finally left her) by this time, he was already getting flashbacks of what really happened. so in that moment when she was facing the water, he simply pushed her. he recreated what his father had done years before to his own mother.

it was that simple, Sean just pushed her.

Katie kills herself tbh, because she's a hella dumb bitch.

Katie and Lena (Lena is Nel's daughter) came up with a game that they would use their looks to seduce older men. these girls were 15 (did you know that the consent age in the UK is 16. that's nuts!!). eventually Henderson (Mark) went for it with Katie and they end up having relations.
her brother josh knew and he told Lena who then told Katie who was then all please shut the fuck up, i love him!!! but it just so happened that Nels overheard too. so i mean, that was a mess.

in the end, Katie tells Mark and he tells her that they cannot continue this because he will lose his job, his reputation will be damaged and he will go to jail and be killed and raped because he will be known as a child molester.

soooo Katie, because she loves him up and down and all around, commits suicide. they cant convict him if she is the only proof and dead.....

Lena confronts mark.
they fight it out.
she attacks him in his home, he puts her in the trunk and drives them to a cottage who knows where that belongs to an ex of his and then.....there's a little bit of inception going on.

Mark tells Lena that he will let her go if she goes to the police and tells them that her and josh made it all up. ....and that scene ends with Lena running away and telling Jules the plan but in the end, when everyone has their ending chapter, he doesn't get one...and Lena never retracts her statement.....so she really killed him? (the scene prior to the deal, Lena found a nail, as going to use it to stab mark but he overpowered her and then she picks up again. mark fights so hard to not...die so i find it hard to believe that he just said fuck it and gave up but.....whatever.

in the end, Patrick ends up confessing to killing his wife and Nels (even though Sean did it).

Jules and Lena move to London.
Louise and Husband, and her son, Josh move to who knows where. (ugh, Louise was such a bitch because she literally blamed everyone and their mom instead of you know, accepting her daughters actions at face value i know, i know...she's grieving but still.)

Nickie goes to Spain cause Nels left her some monies....and Nickie's sister, Janine or whatever moved a long time ago because she was the one who found Sean after Patrick had done what he did. Sean told her the truth and Patrick was all like "if you open your mouth i will kill you!" so she left.

ahm....hmm.....i think thats the gist of it all.
there's definitely stuff i left out but that's it for the most part.

good read, good read.
(also, sorry for any typo's you found....i need to get to work!
