i finally bit the bullet and checked out this book.
remember last year when every single blogger in the world was reading it!?
it was even blogged about on ABM (which quite frankly, i had forgotten about it.)
...but anyways, have you read it?
what did you think?
uhm im kinda all over the place about it.
it wasn't bad but i personally didn't see the whole hoopla over it, meaning i didn't have the need to devour the book in one sitting.
and you know why i think that is? its probably because personally i don't ever want to own my own business. at least not to her extent and so i don't know, i wasn't in a hurry to finish it. but thats not to say that it wasnt good. it just wasnt for me. (talk about being all over the place.)
but i will say this, its amazing how she built her empire kind of on "accident." well not so much on accident but how she sorts of stumbled upon it.
i like how she told her story and how she explains her journey.
how she explains that its NOT easy to get from point A to point B.
i wholeheartedly agree with her. you only get back what you pour in to whatever you are doing.
basically what im saying is, yes, i can see why it was inspiring for those who run their business or those who want to grow something. its nice to see someone putting it all out there. everyone thinks its glamorous but it takes a crap load of work.
it definitely has its motivational parts.
i'll leave you with some of my favorite "quotes"
"#GIRLBOSS is a feminist book, and Nasty Gal is a feminist company in the sense that i encourage you, as a girl, to be who you want and do what you want. but I'm not here calling us "womyn" and blaming men for any of my struggles along the way."
page 14
"you don't get what you don't ask for."
page 112
"i don't believe we're all fit for the time we're assigned. its a weird world we live in, and until time travel exists we've all got to make the most of where we land."
page 137
(and also that jab at Paris Hilton on page 66. eek!)
have you read this?
what did you think?
thanks for reading!
have a great {early cause im leaving for Vegas!} weekend!
just wanted to stop by and post this picture of my momma cause <3
we celebrated another birthday and this one was all sorts of special!
-Josh (my cousin. WE LOVE HER!) came down from Oregon for her nephews bday party and she wanted to hang out before she left back on Sunday. because of my mom's shindig i couldn't go out so we made it in to a family event and had the cousins come over. we had pizza and drinks and the ice cream i forgot to take out. aaannd....
- we also had agua chiles (its shrimp in spicy as hell green sauce!) that B made. yep. that's right. the boyfriend met the mother! and siblings and cousins and then, my dad! (insert shocked emoji face) in my 27 years of life, NEVER have i brought a guy home. its not my thing. i dont introduce unless its HELLA serious. so, its hella serious!
-we had family dinner after at El Torito like ALWAYS! well this is the 3rd year in a row. except this year we were joined by B (he had family dinner with us. color me super shocked!!!!) and my dad.
for some odd reason, they were out of EVERYTHING!!!!
dr pepper, pibb, their Mexican burger, the alcohol in my drink, susu's tortilla soup, the flour tortillas, tessie's salad....basically it was a hot mess but it was so much fun!
here's to another year mom!
i love you lots!
you are the best!!
thanks for everyone that came out! (Chris, Wendy, Ross, Tay, Josh, Marilyn, Steph, Eve & Noah!)

guys!!!!
i read this book in 1 day! well, less if you count it as hours! then it was like 12 hrs on and off.
i started this book at work and i could NOT put it down!
i came across it through a recommendation from Emma and i CANNOT thank her enough. i honestly can't remember the last time i read a book in one sitting.
i actually purchased this book right as soon as i read her recommendation back in march but i just read it on Sunday. i don't know what i was waiting for. i think honestly, the last couple of books that I've bought off recommendations haven't been the best so i was just waiting it out. but boy did i love this book!!!!
From Amazon:
Denton Little’s Deathdate takes place in a world exactly like our own except that everyone knows the day on which they will die. For Denton, that’s in just two days—the day of his senior prom.
Despite his early deathdate, Denton has always wanted to live a normal life, but his final days are filled with dramatic firsts. First hangover. First sex. First love triangle—as the first sex seems to have happened not with his adoring girlfriend, but with his best friend’s hostile sister. (Though he’s not totally sure—see, first hangover.) His anxiety builds when he discovers a strange purple rash making its way up his body. Is this what will kill him? And then a strange man shows up at his funeral, claiming to have known Denton’s long-deceased mother, and warning him to beware of suspicious government characters. . . . Suddenly Denton’s life is filled with mysterious questions and precious little time to find the answers.
so the moral of this book:
everyone knows their deathdate.
once you hit the 5 year old mark or around there, your parents let you know the day you are going to die. Denton Little is one of the 3 that will die in their teens. followed closely by his best friend (oh my god how i love their friendship!) Paolo within a month. so hes out to make the best of his last few hours. from falling in love, to finding out weird information, to turning purple, to facing death several times....its such a fun, well written book.
isn't that kind of creepy? knowing the day you're going to die? i must admit reading this book kinda freaked me out because i kept thinking about how it can happen at ANY moment!!!! but still. this book, yes, well no, its about a heavy subject (death) but its so well written and funny that it doesn't seem that way. it was honestly a very funny book. i found myself laughing a lot and tabbing basically every page because it was that funny. (i have never used the word funny that many times in one sentence!)
i don't want to write much about it because i don't want to spoil it for anyone (because it was that good!) but i do want to suggest that you pick it up!
although, if im being honest, id wait until like March/April 2016 to read it because book #2 coming out in April!!! (jumping up and down in excitement and sadness.)
if i had to say this book reminds me of any other books and references, i'd say it reminds me of the uglies series in the sense that its set in the future and how it all changes even though they both go in a different direction. its also reminds me a liiiitle bit of harry potter in the sense that millie reminds me of luna lovegood. i think any book that reminds you of other books you've loved in the past are a good sign!
look at that? did i just learn how to write a book report without including spoilers at all!?
aahhh!!! its going to be a good week! (:
pick it up and let me know what you think.
if ya done like it, leave a comment. ill personally buy you a donut!
thanks for reading have a GREAT week!

...in my defense it only took me about 1 day to read this BUT since i had a weekend off, i didn't get to finish it until last night because we basically spent all weekend having a weekend long date!

About three things I was absolutely certain. First, Edwart was most likely my soul mate, maybe. Second, there was a vampire part of him–which I assumed was wildly out of his control–that wanted me dead. And third, I unconditionally, irrevocably, impenetrably, heterogeneously, gynecologically, and disreputably wished he had kissed me.
And thus Belle Goose falls in love with the mysterious and sparkly Edwart Mullen in the Harvard Lampoon’s hilarious send-up of Twilight.
Pale and klutzy, Belle arrives in Switchblade, Oregon looking for adventure, or at least an undead classmate. She soon discovers Edwart, a super-hot computer nerd with zero interest in girls. After witnessing a number of strange events–Edwart leaves his tater tots untouched at lunch! Edwart saves her from a flying snowball!–Belle has a dramatic revelation: Edwart is a vampire. But how can she convince Edwart to bite her and transform her into his eternal bride, especially when he seems to find girls so repulsive?

Complete with romance, danger, insufficient parental guardianship, creepy stalker-like behavior, and a vampire prom, Nightlight is the uproarious tale of a vampire-obsessed girl, looking for love in all the wrong places.

"...i think its neat you do what you want. not enough chicks do that, if you ask me - just tell society and their expectations to go fuck themselves. if more women did that we'd be better off." -Lou page 186
im truly bummed, like never before, to have finished this book.
the more i think about it, the more i am saddened that i no longer get to peek in to her hiking life.
im pretty sure you all know about this book to some extent specially since Reese Witherspoon started in the movie adaptation. buuut then again maybe you don't.
basically, this book is everything to me right now and i am honestly bummed that i finished it.
this book is based on Cheryl's life and how when her mother dies she sort of just goes in to a downward spiral. her family falls apart, she cheats on her husband and she becomes a drug addict (well i dont think addict is the right word because she does end up giving it up...but i mean i dont know what else to call it.)
she realizes her life is shit and so she decides to hike the pacific crest trail. (how awesome is that; a trail from Mexico to Canada!) of course she doesn't just one day up and decide "hey! im going to do it!" theres more to it but for once im not even going to spoil the book for you. im just giving you the synopsis.
you know whats funny?
i read the comments on good reads and some people were just, daaamn.
not giving the book a chance and just callilng her one lucked out slut who kept having stuff handed to her and i thought to myself A) im NEVER going to goodreads for a quick peek because these people, geesh and B) "slut" or not...who are they to say? granted she messed up her own life but how many people do you see give up everything and go for something else, something terrifying in life?
you know how nice it sounds to leave things behind and go on a hike like the one she did? (she did CA to Oregon. i believe 334 miles or something around like that?)
what i wouldn't love! to hike California the way she did?
but ya know what? nope. im scared as hell. are you kidding me!?
im pretty sure its safer now you know. with time they've made it better and what not but still. i cant just up and leave like that and its only based on fear of getting mauled by a bear or something like that.
can you imagine the way she did it? all by herfreakingself!?
i read somewhere that she was the first woman to hike it or something. idk. she was the only woman that was listed in all of the registries at the time she started. that's pretty badass.
i believe it takes a hell of a lot of courage to do what she did. well, you know, seeing the state she was in.
and yes, she completes her hike but its not without its ups and downs.
im honestly glad i read this book because i completely loved it.
its more of the journey that captured me and got me really in to it.
as for the movie, for the most part, they do include sort of everything but they mix it up. things that happened towards the end of the book happened in the beginning of the movie. some of the people of the book were switched around in the movie to save time i guess. its a good adaptation. wanna skip the book?, watch the movie. sorta the same gist.
i really really liked this book and just like the Amy Poehler book, i cannot wait to read it again down the line!

its AUGUST!!!!!!!!!!
August 5th to be exact. how.in.the.hell.
maybe time always flies this fast and we just never really noticed it. but then it cant be because the other adults never said anything. or maybe i was too busy being a kid (or sleeping) to hear it.
ahhh!
July,
hhmmm...a few things here and there but mostly it was a quiet month. actually ive been missing because its been sorta quiet.
its just been work, work and boyfriend.
im not even on here on Sunday's and truthfully im kinda over it.
im not taking pictures as often as i should. im going through a non-blogging phase and im not feeling bad about it, i just don't want to disappear from here ya know.
so for now i think ill just stick to what i read (which was always the point of this blog anyways!) but still ill check in from time to time and hopefully ill snap out of this funk and be back for reals!!!
but still....this month is a bit exciting....mom's bday! and i have (finally) Jill Scott in Vegas!!!! im sooo excited for that. thats on a Thursday and that Friday, we will be watching The Beatles cirque du soleil and i cant wait! (happy 2 months to us!)
