THOUGHTS
i found out this book was coming out on accident. i went into the store intending to buy this book but walked out with another and then beat myself up when i didnt even end up given a shit about that one; i was beating myself up over missing this one. the audio came in from the library and a copy was available right away so i dove in and not even a whole chapter in i was once again regretting not buying a copy. i was so close to caving in but something told me to wait and i am so glad that i did because while it was nice to catch up with ST and the gang again (which i will be honest, did not really remember) it still wasnt easier for me since this isn't my kind of read and at the end of it all im kinda really glad now that i dont own this.
this is like walking dead for animals basically.
if its gory in ANY WAY, and it doesn't even have to be wildly gory, this is just gory enough, please get it away from me! and this book! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the description of humans was just ugh for me. i was so glad i was not eating at anytime during the listening of this story. even ST said he hoped we weren't eating! 😲 its just not my cup of tea.
other than that the story message overall was a good one. i could have just done without all the gory (to me) stuff. so honestly all in all, i could have done without this series. simply only because its not my type of trope/read. bahh! but there were a lot of things that i liked about this. i liked the way she humanized ST. and the way she made him care.
this one was good and im okay having come across it but I'm ready to let it go.
more like pointer spoilers after the jump because i dont even know.
-----
im back here after spoilers and i gotta say that while i did love lots of parts of this book im also kinda meh that it exists. i always felt like every issue was easily solved right away. i feel like for as much danger and as dangerous as this all was..... it wasnt? 😕
idk. im glad that its over, i would have been okay skipping this.
I honestly already forgot what happens in the end. Did dee leave? No. They ran the changed humans away. And they all lived happily ever after and I thought it was stupid because after all that shit.....and they seriously believe the changed one's won't come back!? like love was literally all it took? (i might have zoned the fuck out as this confrontation was going on. i was over it.)
I forgot who said it but what if they become the strongest animal out there? There's no way in fuck the changed ones forever leave just like that. There's no way. book 3? Ahh! i think there might be a book 3 idk.
Okay so ST saves the last human, Dee. Along with all these other birds they help raise her. and when shes like 12 or 13 (its like i blinked and she was a teen) she saves uh - i forgot the kind of animal and his name. sorry! - and they grow up together. until she accidentally sets fire to their home in Alaska.
by this point all her birds had kicked her out of their uhm family.
and she has to leave little saved homie behind because he cant swim and they barely fit in the tiny ass boat that they managed to get away into and so thats the end of that! (i was sad. i thought he had died but he doesnt)
they finally make it to Washington and they discover that everything has changed and all animals are hiding and essentially that the humans have mutated to gross fucking things that i refuse to describe and are adapting animal traits and are staring to take over everything.
and it turns out that they want Dee because they want the last female to procreate at least according to i forgot what bird. but then when they finally catch her, i dont remember that they did anything to her? idk by this point i was over it but somehow Dee manages to call all of her entire family that she wasnt sure she still had, im talking about the birds, bees, insects, the homie dude i thought had RIP'd, I MEAN EVERYONE.
and to make this short because i am over it, basically it was love that ran those ugly mofo's away.
and then Dee killed the last male.
after we had learned that there was another male that was killed by the same polar bear cub momma that had almost killed Dee when she was a kid herself.
and of course ST was mad. but the other birds knew.
the guy Dee killed was one of the last surviving male mofo's who was set out to kill her because he couldn't grasp that she was real. All children had ceased to exist a while ago so he didn't believe her to be real. He was guna lure her by killing ST. (who we also think fucking dies real quick but doesnt.)
the end.
