Teo Avelar is a loner. He lives with his paraplegic mother and her dog in Rio de Janeiro, he doesn't have many friends, and the only time he feels honest human emotion is in the presence of his medical school cadaver—that is, until he meets Clarice. She's almost his exact opposite: exotic, spontaneous, unafraid to speak her mind. An aspiring screenwriter, she's working on a screenplay called Perfect Days about three friends who go on a road trip across Brazil in search of romance. Teo is obsessed. He begins to stalk her, first following her to her university, then to her home, and when she ultimately rejects him, he kidnaps her and they embark upon their very own twisted odyssey across Brazil, tracing the same route outlined in her screenplay. Through it all, Teo is certain that time is all he needs to prove to Clarice that they are made for each other, that time is all he needs to make her fall in love with him. But as the journey progresses, he digs himself deeper and deeper into a pit that he can't get out of, stopping at nothing to ensure that no one gets in the way of their life together.

MY THOUGHTS
to be fair, that rating is KIND of off and now i see why people have like 1-5 or even 1-10.
i didn't not care for the book.
i just didn't fucken like it.
I HATED IT!!!!

now, with that being said, it wasn't a badly written book. i can see why people would like it. it's a good book it just wasn't my taste.
if i could eternal sunshine of the spotless mind this book, i would.
but again, this is my thought; it wasn't a bad book. i just didn't care for it.

Teo is the very main reason why at this day and age I'd rather die alone than ever meet a person over a dating app or just at all.
I'm a huge chicken because we live in a world were everything is fucked up (yes, there is a lot of good out there) I'm just naturally a worrier.

I used to think i was a Clarice. i used to give my phone number out to anyone. i didn't care. I'd talk to anyone and everyone. i didn't care.

but all she did was go up to Teo and SPOILER kiss him SPOILER OVER and that's all it took for him to become this freaking psycho.

i think i hated this book because of all the suspense. because i know that this could possibly happen in real life. at least with Dean Koontz books i know there's not a chance of that ever happening.
i think i hated this book because of the person Teo was but also the person he eventually became.
because you already knew he was fucked up in the head.
i think i hated this book because Clarice never had a chance. she was always screwed.
i think i hated this book because Teo should have gotten caught a long time ago.
because he fucken killed his dog!!!!
because hew as a psychopath and just UGH!!!!

i wish i would have never read this book.
i just cant believe it all!
i was so angry reading this book. and i couldn't put it down because i was waiting for him to get caught but nothing!
N O T H I N G ! ! ! ! !

oh! and if you do what i did and jump to the last page and read and then you're like WTF!? how!?
don't worry, you still didn't spoil much. cause plot twist!

gah.

I'm doing it backwards this time...spoilers are after the jump.

thanks for reading!

if you're here its cause ya wanna know!
i don't blame you!

lets get to the basics

SPOILERS

so, Teo's mom makes him go to a BBQ.
as he's leaving Clarice comes up to him, makes small talk and then gives him a peck on the lips.

that's all it takes.
he's in love and she's the one hes meant to be with.

he becomes a stalker and eventually after the cat and mouse game, he beats her over the head with some books he bought her after she tells him that he needs to basically fuck off because there is no way they'll end up together.

so he beats her, stuffs her in a Samsonite suitcase and takes off to his house for a couple of days where he holds her hostage strapped to his bed with handcuffs.
his dog being a dog starts barking and shit so he gives him some of his moms sleeping pills. ultimately killing him. fuck him for that (yes i know its a fake dog.)

so anyway, he makes his way to the cottage where she was going to go write her screenplay and the same game happens over there.
now, considering that shes a frequent there, no one ever said shit til the last day when they go check the phone line in their room.
utter bullshit.

Bruno, her ex, whom she got in a fight with but was still with either way, after texting and calling her like crazy, shows up and throws it down with Teo after he makes into the room and realizes what he's doing with Clarice.
at one point i think he would gotten the best of Teo but in the end, Teo kills him, ends up dismembering him and throwing his body pieces into the little lake/river that's like -20 steps from their cottage
-________________________________-

the next day they leave to another motel.
she tries to seduce him but it doesn't work. he goes out, gets drunk and then comes back and well basically rapes her.

they take off to another island for an entire month and he still has her gagged and chained. little by little she builds her trust with him and on Christmas day after dinner, they go for a walk and she beats the shit out of him with a lantern.

the tables have turned.
she has him handcuffed, barely feeds him or gives him water, lets him defecate himself and eventually feeds him rotten meat (hes a vegetarian and eating meat to him was probably worse than eating rotten meat).

eventually she lowers his hands (they were up in the air...all 7 days) and ties him up on the side and leaves the key on the nightstand next to him. (dumb bitch)
he had been carrying this satchel around and so she wants it open. he eventually gives in and she finds Bruno's glasses.
he tells her that he killed Bruno.
she goes fucken crazy, runs out and tries to kill herself at sea.
Teo manages to get the key, unlocks himself and goes to rescue her.
he eventually finds her and brings her in.

she was okay overall with a few dings here and there and a bad laceration on her left butt cheek.
so he drugs her and takes care of her wounds and then ultimately, he disables her.
he folds her and then he shoves a burned knife between L1 & L2 (whatever the fuck that means) and applies pressure rendering her immobile from the waist down.

she finally wakes up, freaks the fuck out and while he's trying to tell her that they both killed Bruno and that she was paralyzed out at sea, she KNOWS hes fucking with her. she knows the truth all along.

he drugs her, stuffs her in the suitcase and back home they go.
once in his car, he sets her in the front seat and off home they go (i mean WTF was he thinking!? that she'd never talk!?)
she feigns sleep and pretends to have nightmares, does some jerk moves.
he tries to wake her up and she lounges at him and off the bridge they go.

he wakes up in the hospital with just basic ass cuts and shit and of course she's in a coma.

he gets interrogated by a cop, he feeds him the same bullshit story and eventually leaves.

he goes to see Clarice and her mom is there cussing him out and eventually softens. she sends her husband for coffee and as soon as he leaves she straightens up and tells Teo that she KNOWS he killed Bruno.
he's shocked but he feeds her the same story. (he tells the cop he's never even seen Bruno) time passes and they kinda become a family.

then one night while visiting Clarice, he leaves to go have some drinks, he freaks out because he realizes that she will eventually turn him in when she wakes up so he goes back and cuts her oxygen and all those wires.
only to change his mind right away and increase her oxygen levels.
an alert comes on and the medical comes in, kicks him out and tries to save her.
he goes home and just thinks fuck it, my time has come.

the next day, he goes to the hospital ready to get caught but it turns out that him turning up her levels actually saved her life and made her actually speed up recovery.

so he's safe there.

but he's still thinking that when she wakes up she'll speak so he decides to just spend time with her parents til his time comes.

so then she wakes up!

and of fucken course...she can't fucken remember a single fucken thing.

the last thing she remembers is her grandpa dying 2 years ago and her high school graduation.

eventually she's released and well because he's a psycho and went and got each of them engagement rings back on Thanksgiving (or Christmas or sometime in December) he brainwashed everyone into thinking that they were indeed engaged.

so she's released and they're now engaged.
she can never walk again and even though her dad got her a therapist to help her remember the past, she never remembers.
and Teo starts to avoid talking or even mentioning things that were involved during those 2 months for fear of anything setting up a spark in her mind that will reveal the truth.

eventually they both graduate, move out on their own and get married.
and pregnant.

and that's how it ends.

they end up married expecting a girl; Gertrude.

i REALLY hope there's not a second book.
i couldn't do it.

and that's it.

💩💀😔
